The University for the Elderly and Happy Longevity Society, two affiliated organizations of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, held a closing ceremony. They invited Acting President Deng-Maw Lu, Dean Da-Fu Huang of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and a lot of STUST chief executives. For 9 consecutive years, the University for the Elderly has won grants from the Ministry of Education for its continuous support of lifelong learning for retirees. The courses are related to intellectual health care, arts and cultural history, practical laws and taxation, and off-campus visits, such as the Mingde Treatment and Extermination. Pin-Shun Chao, advisor for both the University for the Elderly and Happy Longevity Society, led the student chorus to visit the Lao-Wu-Lao Elderly Care Center in Taiwan for condolences. They also went to Shang-Cheng Community to work for volunteer service.

During the semester, they also took a great trip for two days and nights, going to the Changhua Chengmei Cultural Park and the Wanjing Art Garden, where the trainees were able to fully experience the richness of local culture. Among them, the wondrous floral shows and exquisite wood carving crafts of Wanjing Art Gallery made students feel particularly amazing. It was wonderful that the night they stayed in the West Lake Resort, where the dinner was a pleasant surprise for the birthday party, bringing the atmosphere to the climax. As senior member Ming-Feng Wei said, joining the large family of senior citizens, he has found the focus of his life after retirement and understood that lifelong learning is crucial to one’s life. The most important thing is to enjoy the harmonious atmosphere of the class, where he has made a lot of "old" friends. This is exactly what STUST has been looking forward to. With the self-study by learners and the sublimation of self-development, self-fulfillment eventually leads to the mutual enrichment between the University for the Elderly and its students.

As Deputy President Kun-Chong of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology pointed out, National Development Council estimated that Taiwan would enter an elderly society next year and that by 2026 the elderly population in Taiwan would go beyond the threshold of 20% and move toward a society of ultra-old age. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology is committed to providing and sharing resources with trainees. It will continue to serve the community and take the university's social responsibility. In addition, as Taiwan enters an ageing society, learning needs and services for senior citizens will become an important social issue. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has been actively engaged I cultivating talents to serve elderly people. We welcome young people interested in senior care to attend the Bachelor Degree Program of Elder Care in our university, developing relevant professional knowledge and contributing to the elderly.
