Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology recently held an inauguration ceremony for its “Intercollegiate Alliance Industry Technology and Practice Building.” Chairman Chin-Chiong Chang and President Deng-Maw Lu, accompanied by the school supervisors, attended the ceremony and witnessed the new landmark of “Inter-School Regional Academia-Industry Strategic Alliance” and “Integrated Cross-School Talent Development. The building is coordinated with the development of the “Model University Program” and the demand planning of “Yulin-Chiayi-Tainan Inter-region Paradigm Strategic Alliance.” The main purpose is to create a reasonable, beautiful and comfortable environment for inter-school integration of production and learning, and to promote regional industry development and inter-school sharing of internship facilities to reduce the burden on related schools. In addition, it further achieved the integration of R&D resources for inter-school innovation and breeding facilities, exemplary strategic alliances, and the goal of fostering cross-school talent.
The "Intercollegiate Alliance Industrial Technology and Practice Building" was erected on November 17, 104 and was already completed. In order to create a lively, functional and comfortable industrial and academic research environment, the building is designed to create architectural hollow bodies to shape the building's atrium and three-dimensional greening to make the measuring body an open space for urban landmarks, extending the open space and shaping the campus with a new brand in the future. In addition, the entire building is designed to meet the green building-related indicators and implement the concepts of environmental protection and energy conservation. The building has a gross floor area of 1,956.25 square meters. It is divided into three parts: two underground floor, eleven floors above the ground, and one projected floor. The total floor area of the building is 21,153.77 square meters. It costs about NT$570 million and was designed by the Chun Sun Architecture. Based on the overall architectural style and geographical environment of the school campus, its design concept echoes the existing building axis and conforms to the terrain features, employing the tone of the campus's existing red brick building along the exterior walls and adopt red brick outside the exterior of the building. The walls are used to extend the traditional vocabulary of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology and to achieve green building requirements, such as energy saving, waste reduction, and environmental protection.

This building was design to symbolize the cooperation between industry and universities through its imagery. STUST has been committed to nurturing outstanding talents in various industries, promoting cross-school cooperation, integrating technology research and development in the fields of biotechnology and automation, and jointly developing practices and theories. With all these, students and STUST will have a win-win situation, using the prototype of the college to create an image of the Athens Academy. The entire building is designed as a major public space for “people.” In the form of an early monastery, the design signifies a development concept that pursue people’s interests. Based on the spirit of the college’s research, the college has placed a space for interaction and discussion in various departments, providing public spaces for discussion, debate, and exchange for students to permeate into various research fields and industry-university cooperation.
As President Deng-Maw Lu of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology pointed out, the total funding for the “International Alliance Industrial Technology and Practice Building” is about NT$ 570 million, and in addition to the budget support budget of Southern Taiwan Science and Technology University, NT$ 100 million came from the subsidies granted by the “Ministry of Education Development Model Science and Technology Program.” The construction of the building aims to integrate inter-school production-learning links, promote regional industry development, enable inter-school sharing of internship facilities, and reduce the burden on all schools. In addition, it undertakes the integration of inter-school innovation and breeding facilities, the integration of exemplary strategic alliance of R&D resources, and cross-school talent development. The completion of this building represents a concrete realization of the concept of inter-school and inter-disciplinary sharing of resources. It also constructs a model of linking production and learning with optimization, providing a new platform for cross-school cultivation of talents, which enterprises need desperately. This is in line with the consistent management philosophy of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology for “researching, innovating, and pursuing excellence” and its pursuit for being a first-rate university. It is committed to “combining high-quality peripheral resources and developing regional advantages” with specific development achievements and emphasis on the development of science and technology and humanities. It is believe that in the near future, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology will become an academic and corporate resource with the development of inter-industry linkages and regional industry and innovation and the development of cross-cutting industries. The integration center will also become the cradle of cross-school talent cultivation in Taiwan.
