The Creative Design Competition of 2018 Youth Design Festival was held at the Live Warehouse of the C10 Warehouse in the Second Art District of Kaohsiung on May 6. The creative team of the College of Digital Design, Southern Taiwan University of Technology, outshone many competitors across the country. The Department of Visual Communication Design won the gold medal of "Visual Communication Design," and the Department of Multimedia and Computer Entertainment Science won the gold and silver medals of "Interactive Science and Game Design." The Department of Innovative Product Design won the gold, silver and bronze medals of "Three-Dimensional Modeling and Product Design," becoming the department with the most dazzling performance in the award ceremony.

The Department of Innovative Product Design covered the gold, silver and bronze medals in the “Three-Dimensional Modeling and Product Design” category. Among them, the gold-winning work “Selected Folding” is a collapsible safety helmet that is shock-resistant, durable, and easy to carry. It is not only safe and comfortable but also flexible, allowing the user to adjust its size. Its practical and innovative design was highly appreciated by the judges. The silver-winning “Bamboo Wing, Chubby, Bamwood Chair” made use of traditional three major bamboo processing techniques and aesthetic features, cleverly combining modern living elements and processing processes, subverting the logic of past production, challenging the possibility of the material itself, and further redefining bamboo products. With its relationship with modern life, its creative ingenuity won recognition and the silver medal. The bronze medal work “Our Do” aims to promote blood circulation by activating joints and muscles of lower extremities and enabling busy office workers to maintain their work even when they are busy. This healthy, creative works was highly appraised.

The Department of Multimedia and Computer Entertainment Science performed well in the "Interactive Technology and Game Design" category. "SteamNano" won the gold medal in this category. Based on the industrial revolution, it emphasizes that players would think about the era of new technology when they play games. This is a sense of conflict, an implementation of social reflection of young students. The silver-winning work, "Photos of Facing City," is a puzzle game created with roulette, enabling players to indulge in the fun of thinking during the challenge.

The work of the Department of Visual Communication Design, “Welcome to Weird Dreams,” performed brilliantly and won the gold medal in “Visual Communication Design.” The work combines AR with special ink and other scientific explorations. It includes a set of monsters in the story described as dangerous objects at home. Through the parent’s actual contact with their children, this monster picture book evokes the importance of children’s home security, supported by a variety of special interaction modes and unique contents.

President Deng-Maw Lu said that Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, based on the principles of "diversity adaptability" and "pragmatic practicality" in technical and vocational education, has actively promoted the seamless integration of talents in schools and industry and nurtured the industry through secondary education. At the same time, the school also supports and encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities and competitions, in order to accumulate their experience, expand their horizons and help them out of traditional framework. Ho-Tian Ye, Dean of the College of Digital Design, also stated that winning numerous awards this time was not only an affirmation of students’ efforts, but also a contribution to the future development of other students.
