The South Taiwan University of Science and Technology won several gold medals in this competition, including the one won by the work "Rotary Locomotive Brake Light Switch," developed by the Prof. Jia-Jun Chui of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and his student and their partner—HSIN YUAN HAO Enterprise Co., Ltd. The product was designed with innovative mechanisms to successfully solve the conduction problem. The structure of the device is highly sophisticated, effectively utilizing the existing space, reducing production cost, and maintaining the existing appearance. As it can be applied to most vehicles currently popular with people, the work has successfully helped the manufacturer expand its domestic and oversea markets. Another work that also won a gold medal is "Optical Sensing Device for Non-invasive Blood Signal Measurement," developed by Prof. Da-Hui Li of the Department of Electronic Engineering and the research and development team formed by his students. They developed this product to measure blood-related using non-invasive optical sensing methods. The user only needs to wear the device on his finger or earlobe, perform blood signal measurement and analysis with its infrared monitoring, and use the low-power Bluetooth to combine the Internet of Things to sense the continuous uninterrupted measurement. The data obtained is then transmitted to the user’s mobile device to enable him to grasp his or her health through the smart phone. Another gold medal winner is “3D Low-Cost Solar Power Identification,” developed by Prof. Rui-Tang Chen of the Department of optoelectronic engineering. The product employs dye-sensitized solar cells as an independent system to control the opening and closing of glass automatic doors with Arduino. It comes with features of convenience and security in unlocking, focused on the safety of physical and mental disabilities and their special needs.

President Deng-Maw Lu of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said that in order to meet the government's policies and industry trends, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has developed key research priorities, reorganized cross-domain research teams, established technical research centers, and positioned itself as the best partner of the industry. For years STUST has been working hard on Innovation, internationalization, cooperation between industry and academic sphere, integration with external resources of production, and research. It has not only helped enterprises cultivate suitable talents and bridge industrial manpower gaps, but has also developed key technologies with enterprises and establish research and development. It has also uphold the concept of assisting regional SMEs to upgrade and transform and implement university social responsibility. Moreover, STUST has invested heavily in cutting-edge and valuable research and development equipment and resources, greatly committed to the development of industry-university cooperation. It has accumulated great strength for research and development. Once again in an international competition, all these award-winning works have shown the strength of the research and development done by teachers and students at STUST.
