Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology Library recently held the "Little Librarians" activity to help reading take its root in children and cultivate their good habits of reading at an early age. The event was organized by the STUST library, the Department of Child Care and Education, and its affiliated kindergarten. Through the game mode, the library readers were assisted in borrowing, returning books, and finding books, which could contribute to cultivating their reading interest. Students of the department even gave them a play to show how a librarian works in his or her daily work

As Prof. Lan Hung once said, "reading is a habit, not an instinct.” It must be cultivated at an early age." Reading is the foundation of life and learning. Children need not only the companionship of their parents but also the reading itself done by their parents and children, so that children can read and learn. By the "little librarians" activity, STUST hoped to lead the children to knowledge from the game. While the library highlighted its featured services, they started to fall in love with the library and get to the world of reading earlier, building up their interest and preference for reading to enrich their reading life.

Let the kindergarten children put on the lovely library work apron, help the library readers borrow books, return books and find books, and play the "little librarians." The kindergarten children were given a kind of early experience in the workplace. From childhood, children have begun to like exploring different fields of learning history and experience, which invisibly encourages children to explore their own interests.

Vice President Ming-Tsai Lai of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said that this activity made the schoolchild become a small soldier in the library. Through the actual implementation, he or she understood the borrowing, returning, and book classification and book arrangement of the library. He hoped to start with the "little librarians" experience, let the students know the professional field and work process of being a librarian, make them willing to cherish books, develop their reading habits, and actively follow the library etiquette and service for the public. This activity used library resources to promote reading as well as parent-child learning and interaction. It also added to the kindergarten characteristics of the school.
