The finals of the 2019 National Web Design and Mobile APP Creation Competition for Charity / Technology / Humanities, hosted by Chinese Professional Management Association of Hsinchu, were held at Jiaotong University, Hsinchu City. Department of Information Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, stood out from among the 25 colleges and universities and won the finals, winning the Gold Award of “Mobile APP University Group” with its brilliant performance.

The 2019 National Web Design and Mobile APP Creation Competition for Charity / Technology / Humanities was initiated by Chinese Professional Management Association of Hsinchu in 2000. In 2012, the App Creation Competition was added in response to the development of Internet technology. Over the past 19 years, more than 5,400 teams and 16,000 participants have participated in the competition. It has become an innovative approach to promoting social welfare through computer and network technology. The purpose of this competition is to enhance innovation, entrepreneurship, teamwork, and entrepreneurial spirit in domestic colleges and universities, so as to help students integrate their life experiences with the theory and practice they learn at school. Students can thereby enhance their power of innovation through this competition. They need to combine their experience with practice before they recognize that innovation is not only an empty talk about theory, but also requires practical experience and enthusiasm for continuous innovation and research and development.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology's "Eating for the Future" team was jointly directed by Prof. Ding-Chao Wang from the Department of Information Management and Prof. Yong-Ming Huang from the Department of Multimedia and Computer Entertainment Science. The team consisted of students Shang-Yu Lin, and Pei-Ting Tsai from the Department of Information Management, Lin Shangyu and Cai Peiting (both graduated from the Department of Data Processing Division in Tainan Guanghua High School), Hong-Jia Shiong (graduated from the Department of Commercial Business in National Chiayi Gaoshang High School), and Sheng-Jin Wang (graduated from the Department of Information Application in National Taitung Gaoshang High School). Owing to the fact that the announcement of the finalists was only 17 days away from the finals, all the participating students spared no effort to actively prepare the materials for the finals. In the face of powerful competitors from all over the country, our team finally won the Gold Award in the “Mobile APP University Group.” The good results are indeed commendable.

Mei-Shiang Wang, Chair of the Department of Information Management at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that the Department of Information Management was established in response to the development of Taiwan's professionals in information management and specialized in cultivating the talent in advanced information management technology in teaching and equipment management. Its curriculum planning focuses on the practical experience and integration capabilities of planning, managing and developing information systems. In this competition, under the cooperation of the instructors and the participating students, not only the team's ability to coordinate and cooperate, but also the ability of students to solve problems are demonstrated. It is a very educational competition and worthy of promotion and attention.
