Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology recently held the 2019 Fundraising Dinner for Disadvantaged Students at Huaping Memorial Hall of Dongdong Banquet Hall in Tainan City. The dinner was hosted by STUST Career Development and Alumni Center, sponsored by the National Alumni Association of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Tainan Association of Bosses’ Wives, Tainan Alumni Association and EMBA Alumni Association of Tainan Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. In addition to alumni and partners, a lot of enthusiastic social groups and more than 400 honorable guests showed great enthusiasm in the hot event.

The event kicked off with the film of the disadvantaged student aid program, showing the implementation results of the donation of more than 436 million yuan from all walks of life in the 107 academic year, including five measures: promoting the soft power of the disadvantaged students and the competitiveness of the workplace, giving priority of work opportunities to the disadvantaged students, improving their reading and expression skills of disadvantaged students, expanding the implementation of improving the English ability of disadvantaged students, and subsidizing the low-income students to study abroad. As for the money raised by the Welfare Student Fundraising Dinner, each penny is dedicated to helping the disadvantaged students of the school. The film recorded the journey of the students who had benefited from program, making all their dreams come true. Each and every word showed their gratitude, touching the heart of everyone.

This year coincided with the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. In order to share the joy of excellence in development, the school specially invited Yu-Shang Hong of the Department of Hospitality Management to make cakes for sharing, creating a symbol for the event with a round cake and wishing everyone present to be sweet and happy in life. Hong created a professional handicraft for West Point and won the bronze medal at the 45th International Skills Competition. She also obtained the subsidy for examination bonus and practice materials through the assistance mechanism of the program, which had helped her focus on practice for the World Skills Competition and bring back the glory for the university. In addition, the stage program was co-produced by the school's student association, the student military society, the Southern Star Folk Guitar Society, and the student dance Club. Taiwan Association of Bosses’ Wives was also invited as the guest of honor. The team of the association showed all the confidence and glamour in their classes as they had carefully prepared a wonderful dance performance, with gorgeous dresses, neat dance, and dynamic music. They made all the guests open their eyes and respond with applause. In addition, EMBA alumnus Zhi-Shiang Yeh offered a lot of products and devices for an on-site lottery contest for participants. At the end of the dinner, President Deng-Maw Lu invited all the alumni to enthusiastically sing the song together—"I’ll Back You Up,” bringing a warm and joyful ending to the event.

President Deng-Maw Lu of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said that since its establishment in 1969, the university has been flourishing for 50 years. Thanks to the dedication of former presidents and their efforts in the development of school affairs, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has had a long-standing reputation. He was also grateful to all the guests and alumni of the community for their support and enthusiasm and showed gratitude to everyone on behalf of the university and all the students. He believed that under the foundation and related assistance mechanism, students will be able to study with a peace of mind and live without much care. The university will certain work hard to create a more advantageous environment, fulfill its social responsibility, and make greater contribution of the university.
