“Formosa, Rivers / Mountains / Birds” Team of the Department of Visual Communication Design, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, recently won the 2019 Red Dot Design Award in Germany, which was founded by the famous German design association Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen.

【“Formosa, Rivers / Mountains / Birds” Team delicately combines the ticket with a luggage tag so that passengers can receive the tourist ticket with beauty and texture in the designed aluminum luggage tag.】

This competition is one of the largest and most prestigious design awards in the world. A total of 8,697 entries were submitted for this competition, with participants from 48 countries. Four students of the Department of Visual Communication Design, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology —Rui-Hong Weng, Ya-Ling Wang, You-Ning Hou, and Fang-Yu Tsao, under the guidance of Professor Zhong-Ren Chen, won the German Red Dot Design Award: Brands & Communication Design 2019 with their work “Formosa, Rivers / Mountains / Birds.” Winners were invited to participate in the awards ceremony and designer night in Berlin, Germany.

The design of "Formosa, Rivers / Mountains / Birds" is based on the "Formosa Express" sightseeing train in Taiwan. The tickets include three major themes: Taiwan Rivers, Taiwan Mountains, and Taiwan Birds. They are jointly designed to be ticket images on a series of tourist tickets. In response to the aforementioned three major themes, eight sets of ticket series designs have been developed, with a total of 24 sightseeing tickets. The overall visual presentation of Taiwan's rich natural beauty were designed with the purpose to develop a unique cultural awareness and feelings for the local values on the part of passengers.

The team delicately combined the tickets with luggage tags. These tourist tickets with beauty and texture are for passengers to store in the designed aluminum luggage tag. Used ticket can be retained and remembered by passengers. As the design team of "Formosa, Rivers / Mountains / Birds" believes, "Good visual communication design allows human emotions to continue and grow."
