  It’s awesome! Corridor Graduation Exhibition of the Department of Information Communication, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, featured “Déjà vu" as it has received numerous awards.    2020/5/7    

 

The graduation exhibition of the Department of Information Communication, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, recently opened at Building L at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. The two-day gallery exhibition on the fourth floor covered five major types of feature films, documentaries, cartoons, news, and marketing. The animation category were further divided into 2D and 3D. Documentaries include vegan diets, same-sex marriage, catering culture, youth entrepreneurship, stray animals, and many other topics. The marketing categories included innovative hip-hop milkshake and ancient traditional ice shop. The works came in a great variety. The news category integrated ten sets of in-depth news reports into news programs with a duet of reporters for the anchor broadcast. As the works were rich and diverse, they showed the learning effectiveness and professional strength of students in the Department of Information and Communication.

For the time being, the Department of Information and Communication has accumulated 18 awards this year. With the film "Fortune-Telling," the students won the gold medal of the Creative Short Film Group in the "2019 Youth Films University Cup." "Traditional Good Taste-Yellow Huang Huo-Mu Taiwanese Taste Ice Shop" won an Excellency Award in the marketing group. "Family Street Feast" and "Hello! Wigan” an Excellency Award in the documentary film group. "The Voice of My Island" won the Best News Award in the "2019 Peopo Citizen News Awards." In addition, in the awarding ceremony of the 45th Art & Beauty Award, "The Voice of My Island" became the only one that won the Best News Award. "Fraudulent Fortune Teller" received the best lighting and best photography, while many other competitions stayed shortlisted in May to be announced as winners one after another.

President Lu Deng-Maw of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Vice President Ming-Tsai Lai, Dean He-Tian Yeh of the College of Digital Design, and Deputy Dean Guo-Li Huang visited the exhibition site to encourage and support the students. The President said, “The learning achievements and competition awards I received made me very proud of everyone. In addition to professional ability, I saw that the graduating students still tried their very best to plan the internal exhibition despite the fact that they were forced to cancel major exhibitions due to the pandemic outbreak. I also hope that this exhibition can be a great success to the end!"

In addition to the outstanding performance of audio-visual works, the 16th Graduation Exhibition of the Department of Information Communication, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, was also creative and interesting: booth creators and visually derived export hoods, perpetual calendar hanging cloth, and L- document folders. The time rotating board designed by the students had the highest degree of inquiry and was admired by all teachers. The news team made a virtual studio model with a small tablet and two 12-inch dolls, which was full of the atmosphere of the anchor broadcast news. In addition to displaying the traditional storefront flavors of southern Taiwan, the team members even put together the local ingredients transported by the store into a three-dimensional topographic map of Taiwan. In addition to participating in the animation of the French Annecy Film Exhibition, the 2D animation film "Puppeting," its bundled DVD and other accessory products also matched the theme of the film, with its packaging manually formed to to create different changes on the surface. Another cartoon "Malulu and His World of Firewood" told the prime of ancient buildings, matching the new landmark—Sky Dome and Flat Earth— of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology and giving particular meanings to the whole booth. The documentary "Bewilderment is Listening" presented at the booth how gay groups overcame difficulties in society to protect their good names. The installation artwork decorated at the venue also asked the teachers and students at the meeting to tie up colorful ribbons to express their own identities. Finally, the film “Fraudulent Fortune Teller” set up a fortune-telling booth and foregrounded the fortune-teller’s money-making Mahjong in the film. As the pandemic is raging, the hand-made mahjong soaps were produced to remind the public of washing their hands frequently during the period. Even Vice President Lai came to throw the wickets, draw lots, and pick fortune-telling poems at the booth, which made everyone there eager to give it a try. The whole exhibition was full of joy.

The graduation exhibition this year, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus pneumonia pandemic, canceled many internal and external showcases, but the students of the Department of Information Communication still actively came up with coping methods, trying to show their works in the form of online exhibitions, so that more people could see the strength of their works and look forward to the attention and exchanges from all walks of life. The Department of Information and Communication also created the "Déjà vu" (Vision Maker) channel on the YOUTUBE platform to introduce each group of works and Q & A in a humorous way. By streaming audio and video, the platform improved the exposure of online exhibitions and looked forward to interacting with audiences in a variety of new ways.
