The R&D achievements of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, was selected by the Ministry of Science and Technology as an excellent team implementing the “MST Practically-Oriented Research Project for Technical Colleges and Universities.”    2020/5/18

The Ministry of Science and Technology has been encouraging technical colleges and universities to conduct a half-month online display from the practice-based research project exhibition from May 15 to 30. The project exhibition was to encourage teachers to work on practical research and development capabilities; it also encouraged students to devote to practical research, combining academic R&D with industrial applications, exerting the spirit of learning from doing, and inheriting the essence of technology. This achievement exhibition selected 171 projects from a large number of projects for online display, in order to improve the visibility of teachers of technical college and provide opportunities for them to observe and communicate with each other.

The exhibition held a press conference on the 15th. From among a total of 171 projects of three major themes (42 medical and health care, 44 mechanical and electrical technology, 85 social sciences), the exhibition selected the most valuable research to serve as key projects for the opening press conference. Associate Professor Wan-Rong Chang of the Department of Electronic Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and his research team stood out among 171 works with their "Development of Intelligent Head Skin Quality Detection System,” which can be applied to the beauty and hairdressing industry. It was also selected as one of the only three works nationwide to participate in the press conference. A live broadcast was held in the press conference for the team and the Minister Liang-Ji Chen of Science and Technology, allowing the minister to personally experience the research and development results of this project and thus kicked off the exhibition.

The research and development achievements of the "Development of Intelligent Scalp Skin Quality Detection System Applicable to the Beauty and Hairdressing Industry" include scalp image detection equipment, Android mobile tablet APP, and online information service platform. The scalp image inspection instrument utilizes WiFi to transfer magnified scalp images to Android mobile lithography. The lithographic mobile APP can automatically recognize the head skin quality status received through AI deep learning, including bacteria or allergies, dandruff, excess oil, hair loss, folliculitis. This system can not only limit errors happening to current human interpretation, but also reduce the cost of education and training for scalp physiotherapist. Ultimately, it can help hairdressing and scalp physiotherapy professionals to expand their franchises more rapidly

Associate Professor Wan-Rong Chang from the Department of Electronic Engineering, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that "Development of Intelligent Scalp Skin Quality Detection System Applicable to the Beauty and Hairdressing industry" can help break through the bottleneck encountered by hairdressing and scalp physiotherapy professionals in promoting scalp testing services recognized by the industry, creating technology transfer research results worth more than NT$ 1 million. He was very grateful to have stood out from so many R&D teams and invited to participate in the press conference. His was also grateful to the Ministry of Science and Technology for its support and affirmation of his research project. In the future, he will continue to demonstrate the R&D energy of universities of science and technology and implement the projects by the spirit of practical research.
