  College of Digital Design, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won Gold and Silver Awards in the 2020 Youth Design Festival, showing its talents in designing.    2020/6/9    

 

The 2020 Youth Design Festival, organized by the Bureau of Cultural Affairs, Kaohsiung City Government, has been held for 11 years and exhibited every year in the special exhibition area of The Pier-2 Art Center. This year, due to the impact of the new coronavirus pneumonia pandemic, the physical exhibition was cancelled and the competition works were exhibited in digital space. Still, students showed great enthusiasm for the competition. After an intense process of selection, the College of Digital Design of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology showed its strength and won 2 gold awards, 2 silver awards, 1 bronze awards, and 3 excellence awards—a total of 8 awards—in the Interactive Technology and Game Design Category and Three-Dimensional Modeling and Product Design Category. the Department of Creative Product Design won all the awards in the Three-Dimensional Modeling and Product Design Category, including the gold award, silver award, and bronze award. Once again the College of Digital Design of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology showed their strength in talents cultivation.

It was designed by team students Hao Hsu, Zheng-Yun Lin, Bing-Cheng Guo, Wei-Shiang Lin, Zhu-Jie Wang, and Yi-Chen Lin.]

"Youth Design Festival" is one of Taiwan's most iconic and cutting-edge design and creative platforms. It is also the largest competition in the designing arena in South Taiwan. More than one hundred design-related team students participate in the fierce competition each year. The Department of Multimedia and Computer Science, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, achieved great results in this competition. In the Interactive Technology and Game Design Category, it won a total of 1 gold award, 1 silver award, and 2 excellence awards. "Van Wont’s Grow" is a puzzle game that can freely change the angle of view and use light and shadow projection to control the organization cleverly. It was produced by a team directed by Prof. Zhi-Cheng Sun, Chairman of the department, and Prof. Cheng-Shun Shei. The plot describes the process of the player and his sister cooperating with each other, going through mountains to break through difficult problems. The family bondage shakes the player’s heart, while its delicate planning, game content, and complete and smooth programming won the unanimous favor of the judges. It won the gold award in the Interactive Technology and Game Design Category of the Youth Design Festival. The work "Noe," directed by Prof. Hua-Cheng Chang, is a third-person-perspective 3D action adventure on the PC platform, with shocking music soundtrack and realistic 3D animation creation. It won the silver award. In addition, the team work "SOMNUS," directed by Chairman Zhi-Cheng Sun and Prof. Cheng-Shun Shei, and the team work "Leaves Burial," directed by Prof. Mao-Kun Shao, won an excellence award in the Interactive Technology and Game Design Category.

The Department of Creative Product of Southern Taiwan University of Technology has more outstanding performances in this competition. It won all the gold, silver and bronze awards in the Three-Dimensional Modeling and Product Design Category. The gold award winner "Mushroom Planet" was created the team directed by Associate Professor Yu-Ming Chang of the Department of Creative Product Design. The content of the work is to reduce pollution caused by the mushroom industry, and the circular economy is used to conceptualize the design process and products. The player needs to experience the attachment of nutrients to form a compact structure, so that the mycelium grows in the digitally-designed mold, giving the product a unique style and touch. In addition, the student's work "C-DRIVE," guided by Prof. Ya-Lin Chen, won the silver award in the category of three-dimensional modeling and product design. It is an ergonomic consideration for the elderly. The design concept is to allow the elderly to drive easily by a safe, friendly mobile tool that is people-oriented heart-warming design. In addition, the team work "HanDo Sports Entertainment Hand," directed by Prof. Kun Ouyang, is a prosthetic limb designed for 6 to 12-year-old children with unilateral amputation from. Modular design is designed for learning, sports, entertainment and life, to improve the economic problems caused by frequent replacement of the entire prosthetic limb, so that children can grow up healthily and happily. It won the bronze award in the Three-Dimensional Modeling and Product Design Category.. The work "Three and Three," directed by Prof. Wen-Shiong Wang, presents a tangled image of "Spring Aberdeen Flower,” which was used in the wedding ceremony in the early days. It has the symbolic meaning of praying, spreading and blessing. The craftsmanship is used as an entry point to combine crafts and daily necessities. It is combined with home electronic products, allowing traditional craftsmanship to integrate into life in a new style. It won an excellence award of the Three-Dimensional Modeling and Product Design Category.

As President Deng-maw Lu of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said, the students of the College of Digital Design have been constantly breaking through themselves. Through the training of school teachers and the support of teaching resources, they have emerged in major competitions to attract the attention and affirmation of all walks of life. For academic study, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology is definitely a model for technical colleges. The best choice for students is that in addition to the high-education plan of the Ministry of Education for up to NT$ 100 million, STUST also invests a lot of research kinetic energy and school affairs funds to purchase equipment and facilities. STUST has set up various laboratories to comprehensively promote the training plan for technical and professional talents, and promoted collaborative teaching among industry professionals, intensive industrial-academic cooperation, internship matching at home and abroad, employment assistance and counseling, etc., so that students can participate in extra-curricular activities and competitions to accumulate more experiences. He believed that STUST graduates would certainly continue to study after graduation and continue to shine in the society.
