The National Library recently announced a list of winners in its Survey Results of the 2020 Energy Features of Academic Resources in Taiwan Universities and the Influence of Academic Resources in Taiwan. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology performed brilliantly, winning 6 awards, particularly the category of Private Colleges and Universities of Science and Technology and Dissertation Dissemination Award, including the first place in the electronic full text authorization and the electronic full text authorization rate. This highlighted the university’s efforts to share knowledge across academic barriers.

In addition, STUST also won second place in the "Dissertation Open Award" in the category of Private Colleges and Universities of Science and Technology, in terms of the number of electronic full-text downloads. It also won third place in the 2019 ranking of the Dissertation Resource Contribution Award and the fourth place in the Dissertation Open Award in terms of the download rate of the full text as well as the Dissertation Hotspot Award in terms of the number of clicks. These awards showed the fact that the overall academic research performance of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology is outstanding.

The evaluation was based on statistics from the National Library’s Taiwan Doctoral and Master's Thesis Knowledge Value-Added System, Journal Article Index System, Taiwan Humanities and Social Sciences Citation Index System, and other databases. They Library also released and praised the country's most academic influential universities and academic journal publishing units. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has won a number of awards, which not only enhanced the exposure and value of dissertations, but also fully demonstrated the soft power and competitiveness of academic research.

Director Zhi-Jing Yang of the Library of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology stated that in order to promote the concept of full-text authorization and openness of academic papers, the library has cooperated with the National Library in organizing the Inter-school Distinguished Dissertation Authorization and Contest for 11 consecutive years, encouraging domestic PhD students’ dissertations to make their full texts public and to promote the concept of authorizing the dissertations to the collection of the National Library and the University Library. This can increase the visibility of Taiwan’s academic research in the world. At the same time, STUST has been intensively engaged in the promotion of cross-school cooperation and resource sharing in the Southern District Technical College for many years, sparing no effort in promoting the concept of authorizing and publishing the full text of academic research papers.

Deng-Maw Lu, President of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that academic dissertations are an important academic asset of the university. Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has achieved good results in the Taiwan Academic Resources Influence released by the National Library this year. This is an affirmation of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology's commitment to academic research and dissemination of the results of the authorization and publication of academic papers, as a result of the joint efforts of the teachers and students of the whole university.
