  STUST received the highest subsidy from the University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Plan by the Ministry of Education in the 109 academic year, making another great achievement.    2020/9/14    

 

STUST received a full subsidy from the Ministry of Education to implement the University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Project in the 107-108 academic year. It is the only university of science and technology that has received two types of subsidies for two consecutive years. In order to continue the deepening of entrepreneurship education, the Ministry of Education re-launched the two-year University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Project in the 109 academic year and expanded the scale of the program. In addition to strengthen the original program to promote projects, it also expanded innovation and entrepreneurship. Seed teachers were cultivated to improve the ecological environment of campus entrepreneurship. According to the announcement of the Ministry of Education, STUST has made another great achievement, with the highest subsidy amount of NT$2.2 million approved by the Ministry of Education.

The University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Project by the Ministry of Education aims to help universities cultivate talents with entrepreneurial spirit and professional capabilities. On one hand, it strengthens the link between curriculum planning and cultivation of university entrepreneurship; on the other, it establishes a platform for between universities and enterprises, thereby expanding the research capacity of universities.

STUST has opened a series of "Entrepreneurship Practice Micro-learning Courses," which is a series of entrepreneurial foundation courses since 2017, allowing students to develop ideas, formulate production plans, and make proposals (Rocket Pitch) to transform their ideas into actual business operations. In2018, entrepreneurship was included in the key implementation projects of the Higher Education Sprout Project. In 2020, two courses—"Introduction to Entrepreneurship" and "Entrepreneurship Practice"—were opened on the basis on six major thematic modules: innovation, finance, human resources, planning, fundraising, presentation skills, and oral expressions. It included the 8-day high-intensity "Creation and Innovation Battle Camp," company establishment, and operation practice. The entire process was bolstered by nurturing budding counseling and new creation internships, trying to strengthen students' experience through entrepreneurial process.

Rui-Shing Chang, Director of the Research and Production Division of STUST, said that the three-innovation education of STUST includes a series of entrepreneurship education modules, such as STUST Entrepreneurship Class, STUST Cup Campus Three Innovations Competition, STUST Innovation Battle Camp, U-Start, etc. During the period from 2018 to 2019, 55 students and 14 teams for entrepreneurial expertise were trained and cultivated, and the teams had been counseled to apply for the U-START innovation and entrepreneurship plan. One team received a subsidy of NT$ 350,000 yuan in the first phase from the Ministry of Education, while another team acquired a simulated learning platform. Still another team received a NT$ 100,000 Maker Fund from the Ministry of Education with their outstanding performances. STUST will expand the management through the new-year plan, strengthen the STUST cultivation of innovative and entrepreneurial seed teachers, create an entrepreneurial atmosphere for teachers and students, and continue to optimize the one-stop entrepreneurship teaching system.

President Deng-Maw Lu of STUST said that STUST upholds a pragmatic campus culture, sets up the "Creativity-Innovation-Entrepreneurship" learning atmosphere, inspires students to create ideas, develops industrial applications, and bolsters innovative research and development. Moreover, it has worked very hard on commercialization of research results and diffusion of R&D results. Special thanks should be given to the Ministry of Education for its granting of subsidy that allowed STUST to deepen the cultivation of seeds on the campus. In the 108 academic year, it integrated the Higher Education Sprout Project, reorganized entrepreneurial practice and maker space, and introduced counseling energy to help new businesses implement innovation and creative ideas, creating a rooted education and talent cultivation system for three innovations. It is hoped that STUST can become a benchmark university for entrepreneurship education in universities of science and technology.
