  STUST held the 2020 International Symposium on Innovation and Sustainable Technology, fully demonstrating the achievements of international exchanges and moving towards an international first-class university of science and technology.    2020/11/26    

 

The 2020 International Symposium on Innovation and Sustainable Technology was held on November 26 and 27 in the Niantz International Conference Hall of STUST. The Mayor of Tainan City, Wei-Zhe Huang, attended the opening speech of the symposium, which was organized by STUST and jointly directed and sponsored by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, Tainan City Government and Chi Mei Hospital. This year there were outstanding scholars and students from well-known universities participating in the event; they came from 8 countries, including Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Japan, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia. In the conference, President Mitsuhiro Sato of Nihon Kogakuin University and Professor Zhan-Nan Lu from National Sun Yat-Sen University were invited to give speeches. At the same time, 22 scholars from the aforementioned 8 countries were invited to give speeches with a wide range of topics, including various advanced and innovative technologies and artificial intelligence technology applications in the fields of electrical machinery, information, electronics, semiconductor optoelectronics, machinery manufacturing, chemical materials, biotechnology, energy, and wireless communication products. The contents were very exciting, the participants actively asked questions, and the scene was quite energetic.

In addition to domestic and foreign scholars, many domestic and foreign students participated in this conference. Due to the impact of the pandemic this year, foreign speakers and foreign teachers and students participating in the seminar were held in video conferences, including the conference session. There was a speech by President Mitsuhiro Sato of Nihon Kogakuin University, 13 invited speeches by international scholars on group topics, and oral reports by foreign contributors. A total of 279 papers were published in this seminar. The conference was divided into five sessions at the same time. This symposium integrated domestic and foreign academics in one furnace; through the exchange and exchange of international academic research experience, it would improve the international academic standards of Taiwan with its very positive meaning and effects.

STUST has been actively conducting international exchanges with well-known foreign universities in recent years. The foreign scholars invited to this seminar have a considerable degree of exchange and substantial cooperation with the university. For example, President Mitsuhiro Sato of Nihon Kogakuin University, Professor Torii of Kumamoto University, and Professor S. Sivaperumal of Wiltek University of Technology in India have close cooperation relations. In recent years, STUST has also begun to establish sister school relations in Southeast Asia and other emerging countries. Many local teachers and students have come to STUST for further studies. This symposium also gathered senior and young professors from various countries to lead students to Taiwan to participate in submissions, which showed STUST's outstanding achievements in establishing international cooperation.

Dr. Deng-Maw Lu, President of STUST, said that this seminar was first held by STUST in 2003 and has entered its eighteenth year. Although this year it was disturbed by the coronavirus pandemic, it still attracted 200 people from different countries. Seventy-nine academic papers on the latest research and development results were published, which was very rare and valuable. This seminar fully demonstrated STUST’s outstanding internationalization results. It was a great step forward for the goal of becoming a world-class university of science and technology. It was indeed one of the most important international events of the University of Science and Technology every year. In the future, STUST will continue to strive for more foreign teachers and students to participate in the conference. This will not only expand exchanges with the academic circles of Southeast Asian countries, but also contribute to the New Southbound Policy.
