The 19th International Symposium on Advanced Technology was held on January 14, which was hosted by the University of the Philippines (UPLB) and jointly organized by STUST, Nihon Kogakuin University, and Da Nang University in Vietnam. The international symposium was first held in 2002, and since then organized by Japan, Taiwan, and Vietnam in turn. It entered its 19th session this year. In response to the severe international novel pneumonia pandemic last year, the University of the Philippines changed the international symposium into an online one. The theme was “Engineering Innovation for Food and Nutrition Security.” Through academic exchanges and brainstorming with each other and in response to the development direction of governments of various countries, it was hoped that the symposium could focusi on innovative projects, including food and health, AI and intelligent systems, information and communication technology, materials machinery and manufacturing engineering, energy and transportation, structural and civil engineering, and other topics.

The international symposium invited Chairman Academician Eufemio T. Rasco Jr. of the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the National Academy of Science and Technology of the Philippines, Professor Masaharu Yamada of Nihon Kogakuin University, Chairman Ding-Feng Wu of the Department of Biology and Food Technology at STUST, and Professor Nguyen Hoang Mai from Da Nang University in Vietnam as the keynote speaker of the conference, giving brilliant speeches on topics such as how to improve food safety and smart farms in biotechnology engineering. Many scholars from Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Taiwan were also invited to publish papers covering the fields of food health, artificial intelligence, information and communication technology, material manufacturing, energy transportation, and civil engineering.

In addition, many graduate students and college students from Nihon Kogakuin University, University of the Philippines-Los Banos, Vietnam Da Nang University of Science and Technology, and other graduate students and college students participated in the seminar. They published their articles and theses through online presentations. All participating scholars took advantage of real-time online virtual meetings, frequent, enthusiastic exchanges, and interactions with graduate students and college students of STUST, and in-depth and extensive discussions on research technology topics such as artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, and biotechnology food.

President Deng-Maw Lu of STUST said that STUST has actively invested in research and development of cutting-edge technology, encouraging teachers and students to participate in various domestic and foreign related competitions, with fruitful achievement and praiseworthy results. Despite the severe international pandemic, STUST is still actively co-organizing this annual event through the integration of transnational information technology. In addition to showing the achievements of STUST in cutting-edge technology research, the symposium has also successfully acted as an interdisciplinary international academic exchange platform, allowing domestic and foreign scholars in different fields to exchange and share knowledge and information in this international seminar, thereby inspiring new applications in cutting-edge technology.
