The STUST Athletics Team recently participated in the 2021 National College Athletics Open, organized by the Athletics Association of the Republic of China. Bo-Shun Yao from the Department of Semiconductor Control won the gold medal of men’s 400-meter hurdle. Bai-Wen Wang from the Master's Program of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Zhong-Ming Li from the Master’s Program of Business Administration, Shi-De Chen from the the Department of Auto-Control, and Bo-Shun Yao from the Department of Semiconductor Control together won the gold medal in the 1,600 meter relay. The two winning record also broke the record of the open and made new achievements. In addition, STUST won a total of 2 golds, 3 silvers, 5 bronzes, along with two 4th, two 5th, one 6th, two 7th, and 1 8th in the open. Their performances were excellent and amazing.

The 2021 National College Athletics Open was held from March 28 to 29. The school’s athletics team won 3 silvers in men’s 100 meters, pole vault, and 1,600 meters relay; they won 5 bronzes in men's 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, 400-meter hurdles, and women’s triple jump. In other categories, they also had great performances, winning places from the fourth to the eighth. As the news of the victory came back to STUST, all the teachers and students were excited and felt much honored.

All the members of STUST athletics team had practiced very when they had spare time against all odds; even on holidays, they also went to the school to practice. They have demonstrated the fruit of their training over the past year under the coaching and training of their coach Jia-Lin Du. In particular, the performance in men’s 400-meter hurdle and 1,600 meter relay broke the record of the open, creating a new history and great results.

All the members of the track and field team expressed their gratitude to the school and the PE Center for their support. Special thanks to Principal Lu Dengmao who often visited the track and field venues to encourage the players, boost their morale, and expand the playground track in order to provide good sports venues for the players and a better professional training environment for track and field athletes.

Director Rong-Yu Su of the Physical Education Center said that athletes can gain experience and break through through competitions. They are the most precious assets for the participants. He hopes that the players can gain valualbe experiences in every future competition. He is confident that the players have obtained the concept of "doing sports for a lifetime." The athletes can be self-reliant, break through to show their strength, and establish the concept of "doing sports for a lifetime."

Deng-Maw Lu, President of STUST, said that a great university will certainly has excellent athletic performances as sports can not only exercise the body, but also fortify one’s will power. Only a strong physique and strong willpower can become foundation for teachers and students their in the academic field and their pursuit of excellence. The outstanding performance of the team came as a result of the athletes’ tireless and diligent training over the past years. It is worth praising. In addition, the players can break through their own records in the conference and gain experience from the competition to accumulate enough energy for them to move forward. It is the most precious asset that students can obtain. It is hoped that the players can break through and show their strength in future competitions.
