The interdisciplinary engineering and design team of STUST won the golden award in the Model Maker Group of the 2021 Ministry of Education Smart Chip System Application Innovation Special Implementation Competition, hosted by the Ministry of Education. The Ministry of Education has continued to cultivate smart chip system application innovation and interdisciplinary integration capabilities. The new generation of smart electricity resource interdisciplinary industry talents deeply roots the concept of smart chip system application, interdisciplinary innovation topic implementation, and smart chip system application hardware platform at the core of the competition, introducing more industry resources to participating students.

This competition held an online final, which was divided into a Model Maker Group and an Entrepreneur Group. The Model Maker Group was further divided into a smart health group, a smart device group, and a smart environment group. It attracted nearly 50 colleges and universities across Taiwan, with more than 200 teams of college students signed up. It is hoped that students can develop more smart chip-related application services by linking the industry resource with school technology.

The award-winning team of the STUST was composed of students Wei-Hao Chen, Ming-Yi Chen, Yi-Jia Chen, and Bai-Hao Liao from the Department of Electronic Engineering, directed by Professor Wan-Rong Chang, and Associate Professor Ouyang Kun from the Department of Innovative Product Design, to form the "Medicine Cart & Drug Core" The team won the golden award in the Smart Health Care Category of the Model Maker Group with the thematic work "NursMed: Smart Nursing Cart that Integrates Automated Medicine Cabinet and Medicine Identification Box." The cart can be used in the inpatient wards of major hospitals today. With the automated medicine cabinet on the smart nursing cart, it is convenient for the nursing staff to take the medicine and manage the time when the patient should take the medicine. In addition, when the patient takes the medicine, the nursing staff can use the medicine identification box to identify the medicine and confirm the correctness of the medicine, which not only reduces the incidence of patients taking medicine wrongly, but also enhances the trust in the medical care. It can also solve the problem of insufficient professional nursing staff.
Professor Wan-Rong Chang said that the practical design of information and communication, software and hardware, and interdisciplinary cooperation have always been one of the important teaching indicators for the school to cultivate students. It is not easy to win the golden award (first place) in this competition. The "New Engineering Education Method Experiment and Construction Project," granted by the Ministry of Education, implemented elective courses and integrates theory and practice. Through interdisciplinary training, students only specialize in specific engineering fields; it can train students into all-round talents through cross-domain cooperative learning.
Deng-Maw Lu, President of STUST, said that STUST has abundant R&D resources and professional courses to provide students with the best learning environment. The school also encourages teachers to apply for government programs from such units as the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology, and further make good use of their resources. It is applied to students' topical practice and classroom learning. Therefore, STUST also encourages and supports instructing professors to guide students to participating more in off-campus competitions. Through participation in competitions, students can learn various professional knowledge and industrial applications in the process of work development. Through the learning of these knowledge and technologies, in the future, students will be able to commit themselves to the workplace after graduation and seamlessly integrate themselves into the industry, which will also promote the development of students' entrepreneurial opportunities.
