Lecturer Fang’s work "The Last Wrasses" won the best short story in the teacher group. The background of the work tells the story of Dongji Island, Penghu County. Due to the devastation brought by human civilization, the original appearance of the small island quickly faded, causing a crisis to the fish ecology of the sea. The work describes the story of the protagonist Gong Chang, who returns to Dongji Island of Penghu after he is fully recovered from cancer to accompany her mother who has been living alone. One day when she goes to the sea, she comes across some wrasses that are on the verge of disappearing from the region. This incident provides the elements for him to structure the context of the story.

The award-winning lecturer Chiong-Shih Fang has never stopped his creative writing and has repeatedly won national literary awards. His award-winning works include such stories as "Mosquito Disaster," "Haze Damages," and "Land Sinking." All his winning works are related to care for the environmental. With his exquisite portrayal of humanity and profound observation of human culture, the works encompass and deeply embrace the special local cultural emotions, which is particularly touching and inspiring.

In recent years, Lecturer Fang’s eyesight has gradually degraded, and he has become severely visually impaired. Due to the limitations set by many disadvantages and inconveniences, he makes good use of assistive devices based on digital computer voice registration technology, devotes himself to the teaching of general education courses, and personally brings the essential elements of general education into practice. His achievements have also proved that STUST does attach great importance to general education courses and given full support to STUST’s education philosophy: internalization goes beyond pragmatism; utilitarianism can hardly reach the goal.

Lecturer Fang said that the story is not true, but he hopes that through this award-winning work, the concept of environmental conservation can be further deepened, so that scientific and technological life and natural ecology can stay together in harmony.

Chuang-Hsiong, Director of the General Studies Center of STUST, said that the conception, layout, connection, and structure of Lecturer Fang’s "The Last Wrasses" is calm and tidy, deeply appealing and persuasive, and profoundly and powerfully addressing today's sensitive issues. It is indeed a thought-provoking work.
