  The Department of Information and Communication, STUST, participated in the 30th China Times Golden Calf Awards International Competition, showing their creativity and winning the third place and three prizes.    2021/12/9    

 

The creative team of the Department of Information and Communication, STUST, recently won the third place and three prizes in the 30th China Times Golden Calf International Competition. The creative team of the Department of Information and Communication, STUST, has gone through the fierce competition of preliminary competitions, reviews, and global finals. With their fighting spirit like newborn calf without any fear of the tiger, they achieved fruitful results. The Times Golden Calf International Competition has been known as the "Youth Creative Oscar Awards" for the. Despite the pandemic containment and restrictions, it still attracted a total of 1,410 college and departments around the world to participate in it, with more than 80,000 entries.

The theme of this year’s competition is "Bulls Soar into the Sky and Calf Become the Leader." Prof. Dan-Ching Liang from the Department of Information and Communication, STUST, instructed students Yu-Sheng Liao, Yi-Rong Wang, Yi-Hua Tsai, Chua-Nen Lin, Chiu-Yi Du as a creative team called "Tianzi No. 1." The team used the newly launched product of Want Want Group—Mr. Bond Shake—as the theme and brought forth their creative audio-visual advertising work "Use Shake to Keep Happiness and Vitality." The team won the third place of the Non-Print New Brand Category and the Best Art Design Award of Non-Plane Technology Category in the Want Want Group Advertising Design Award. With another work “About Dream,” the team also won the "Palm Read Selected APP Brand Image Advertising Design Award of Non-graphic Category and the Best Award of Technology Category—Art Design Award-Winning Award for Non-Graphic Projects.

Yi-Rong Wang, Yu-Sheng Liao, and Yi-Hua Tsai of the creative team of STUST acted in their award-winning work "Use Shake to Keep Happiness and Vitality," and invited comedian Hao-Wei Chang from the Department of Information and Communication to play the protagonist Mr. Bond, adding to the fun of the advertisement. The second award-winning was an audio-visual advertising work the creative team of STUST designed and produced Chinese online reading company—Palm Reading APP. In order to deviate from the general emphasis on the function of reading APP, it interpreted the core value of the brand from the perspective of a small inner universe.

Prof. Dan-Ching Liang, the team’s advisor, said that this competition was an arena for students to show how creative and competitive they are for international competition. Through the competition, students can learn how to use creative information strategies, media animation design, and film and television production to perfectly execute creative ideas. There were 15 brand strategy propositions in the competition. Students needed to produce creative advertising works to win the competition. A single brand might have tens of thousands of works from all over the world. This year, 24 personally directed works were shortlisted for the "Youth Creative Oscars." It is great for sure! Being shortlisted for the award was undoubtedly a stepping stone to entering the advertising design industry.

President Deng-Maw Lu of STUST said that the China Times Golden Calf International Competition was a competition platform for youth creativity. It encourages young people around the world to use creativity to show the beauty of human life, cultivate positive energy in the new era, promote teamwork and fair competition, and promote creativity. STUST encourages teachers and students to participate in competitions to cultivate pragmatic and practical talents, develop the development of student communication functions as the core, and achieve the educational goal of integrating learning with use. It is worthy of recognition that the Department of Information Communication could receive the Golden Calf Award, winning the international competition as well as the honor for STUST. STUST will continue to cultivate new media communication design pioneers for the cultural and creative industry.
