Jorjin Tech, an international leading manufacturer of AR smart glasses in Taiwan, and STUST jointly established Jorjin Tech Southern Taiwan "5G+XR Metaverse Application Technology R&D Center" on STUST campus. The R&D center was opened at STUST on June 15. During the ceremony, Mayor Wei-zhe Huang of Tainan City came to the venue, together with guests including Chairman Wen-long Liang of Jorjin Tech, Vice President Chi-cheng Chen of Chi Mei Medical Center, and Vice President Guan-bin Su of Tainan Municipal An-nan Hospital invited to participate in the grand event.

STUST implemented the plan of the Ministry of Science and Technology and established the AIoT Smart Networking Application Technology Research and Development Alliance. Jorjin Tech is a corporate member of the alliance counseling. In the middle of this year, the southern part of the company was established. In order to quickly build a metaverse technology research and development team for AR glasses in the south, Jorjin Tech cooperated with STUST to set up Jorjin Tech in the university. The 5G+XR Metaverse Application Technology R&D Center in the south is a R&D technical team formed by both parties to combine Jorjin Tech AR smart glasses, XR Metaverse space with STUST artificial intelligence, 5G networking, and digital content production and other technologies, in connection with relevant partners to focus on the research and development of metaverse application technology in the three fields of smart medical treatment, smart manufacturing, and smart performance. In the initial stage of the establishment of the R&D center, STUST will build 5G with an investment capital of more than 20 million NTD by the Ministry of Education's "Smart Networking Technology Development and Application Talent Cultivation Program" and "University College New Engineering Education Method Experiment and Construction Program." The private network "Smart Factory + Smart Manufacturing Visual Inspection Implementation Factory" and "Smart Medical + Smart Medical Affairs and Nursing Technology Implementation Field" are the 5G+XR industry-university research bases of the R&D center. Jorjin Tech will also invest in related research and development of more than resources worth of 10 million NTD, such as manpower, R&D equipment, industry-university cooperation, and talent cultivation. It is hoped that the application concept of the Metaverse will be accelerated in the southern region of Taiwan.

Prof. Wan-rong Chang, Director of the 5G+XR Metaverse Application Technology R&D Center at STUST, said that the R&D team of STUST and the College of Digital Design have cooperated with Jorjin Tech in the research and development of smart glasses for more than two years. In the AI Emerging Talent Selection Competition of the Bureau, Jorjin Tech Smart Glasses Enterprise was awarded the prize of 400,000 NTD in the ward drug delivery and remote consultation. Together with Jorjin Tech, they have built a resident drug delivery and remote consultation system in Kaohsiung Okayama Veterans Home. Jorjin Tech's choice to establish the Southern R&D Center in STUST is an affirmation of the ability of teachers and students in STUST to carry out research and development.

Deng-maw Lu, President of STUST, said that with the rise of the concept of the Metaverse, 5G+XR application technology has become a topic of public attention. The Southern R&D Center will combine industrial resources and school technology R&D energy to introduce virtual-real integration technology into the fields of smart medical care, smart manufacturing, and smart exhibitions, and rapidly deepen the application technology of the Metaverse.
