STUST recently held the "Stone Exploration Laboratory" summer camp at Shimen Elementary School in Tainan City. The opening ceremony was co-chaired by Prof. Hui-min Ou, Director of the Teacher Training Center of STUST, and Principal Zhen-lin Liu of Shimen Elementary School. The activity lasted for three weeks. In order to provide students in education priority areas with summer homework guidance and balanced physical and mental development, teachers and students of the Teacher Training Center of STUST had planned for the “2022 Promotion Plan of Albert Schweitzer Spiritual Education Service for university teachers and students by Ministry of Education.” 12 teachers and students participated in the activity enthusiastically and gave full play to their strengths to form a service volunteer team.

The camp was planned by teachers and students of STUST to take into account the students' whole-person development in cooperation with STUST DIY Education Association to conduct a DIY course. One of the courses was based on Japanese and Japanese culture, designed by Yan-ding Chen and Jing-wen Hong, so that the participating students would have a basic understanding of Japanese and improve their international literacy. Hui-ling Tang integrated the "code org" program into her curriculum and strengthened logical thinking through the breakthrough of information. Through the comprehensive course "Breakthrough in Life," students were allowed to explore their inner feelings and learn to cherish the moment. Che-wei Chuang designed a series of courses with the theme of "Sports Youth," so that students could sweat with enthusiasm whey they were learning sports skills. En-tong Yeh taught students to make kazoo in the DIY course, including paper fox masks. They led students to make the masks all by themselves, allowing them to make their own unique masks. Yan-jun Lin used art courses to help students depict characteristic lion dances and created streaming animations, allowing students to experience a variety of artistic representation. Through the "King of Musical Instrument Knowledge," Meng-han Huang taught students how to break the pre-existing impression of the objects in life, turning them into musical instruments and finding that life is full of fun. On the other hand, Shiu-ting Wang brought ideas into Chinese creation through travel records and stories, guiding students to discover the importance and fun of writing. Yu-cheng Tsai taught students to sing English songs and enable students to sing bravely; his math courses introduced mathematic concepts through familiar card games to enhance the fun of learning mathematics through games. Shiang-jun Huang integrated Taiwanese into songs, leading students into a lively and interesting course. Jun-ming Huang allowed students to understand natural principles through simple experimental operations and cultivates students' spirit of learning by doing and experimentation. Zi-yin Gao integrated the characteristics of “Sword Lion” into the social curriculum, allowing students to cultivate information integration. It was hoped that the three-week rich, creative summer camp activity could enrich the summer vacation life of students in Shimen Elementary School and create a beautiful learning experience together.

Prof. Jia-chi Wang of the Training Center at STUST said that the name of this year's camp course was "Stone Exploration Laboratory," adhering to the spirit of "learning by doing, learning by playing," and each course had elements of experimental exploration, so that students could achieve more exciting experimental results through continuous experiments, conflicts, and collisions, helping students find the most suitable field for them, arousing their enthusiasm for learning, and bringing them the fun of exploring diverse learning in the camp. It was hoped that through this volunteer service camp, the teachers and students of STUST could experience the feelings of Albert Schweitzer, who went to Africa to practice medicine service and serve remote villages. Through the interaction and teaching practice activities between the teachers and students of STUST and the students of Shimen Elementary School, students' learning could be improved, their interest could be upgraded, and Schweitzer's selfless service spirit could be promoted. All these jointly left good memories to all the participants over this summer vacation.
