Students of the Department of Applied Japanese, STUST, set off to Kagawa, Japan for the first summer overseas internship after a two-year break of overseas internship in Japan due to the gradual slowdown of the pandemic situation or the coexistence policy of various countries. Without a direct flight, the students had to enter Japan through Kansai International Airport in Osaka, and the company would drive back to the Koppei internship site in Kagawa. Although the journey was hard, the students could not hide their excitement for the internship.

This summer internship sent students of STUST to the No. 1 Koupei Hotel Group in Kagawa County, Shikoku, Japan. The hotel owns Hongmeiting and Sakuranosho hot spring hotels and a business hotel. During the pandemic, the company has run its business as usual, showing no sign of stagnation. In order to restart the preparation for the internship, the intern dormitory has been redecorated, hoping to provide a comfortable and clean accommodation environment for the students who come for the internship.

The first overseas internship in Japan of STUST has started. In the near future, the second and the third groups of interns will go to Japan for overseas internships one after another. In addition, the new South Bound overseas internship also departed for the Philippines on July 8. Internships with Japanese companies, according to the Department of Applied Japanese, STUST, will continue to expand the fields and places of internships in the future. It is believed that in the future students of the Department of Applied Japanese will be greatly improved in language, international mobility, and practical ability.

Jen, one of the students who went to the internship this time, said that she had not told any friends before she went abroad, because she was uneasy until the moment she got on the plane. The first-tier interns were originally scheduled to depart on July 5, because the processing time was very complicated and therefore prolonged. The departure was postponed until July 23. The only regret was that because participants in this internship need to come back before the school starts, the interns felt that the time is too short. Yet, being able to go abroad was already better than the situation senior students faced two years ago.
Director Mei-hua Deng of the Department of Applied Japanese, STUST, said that the Department has begun to promote overseas internships in Japan since the 2011. At the beginning, there were only 3 interns. Before the pandemic, more than 120 interns were sent every year. The Department of Applied Japanese, STUST, adheres to the principle that of every student has the opportunity to intern to enhance their practical experience as long as he or she wants it. Many students come to the Department of Applied Japanese because of the great internship opportunities. Director Mei-hua Deng felt sorry for students who have not been unable to go out for internships over the past two years due to the pandemic. She believed that in the future everything would return to the original track and students could fully resumetheir internships and build their dreams steadfastly.
