The 111 academic year has started, and the annual enrollment work of each school has come to an end. As there has been fewer and fewer children, the number of applicants for the entrance exam this year is only 79,266, a decrease of about 9,000 compared with last year. Under this circumstance, the number of students enrolled in the four-year program of STUST still saw a growth against the trend, from 2,614 last year to 2,614 this year. With 2,853 people registered, a number second only to the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, STUST ranked the second among all the universities of science and technology and the first among all the private universities of science and technology nationwide. In the area with extremely high density of colleges and universities of science and technology, and under the pressure of the trend that students tend to choose local schools to study, STUST still delivered such a great result. This once again proves that STUST still holds an important status for high school vocational students and their parents.

In order to reduce the impact of declining birth rate on schools, STUST has made a macro layout in the school affairs reform, invested hundreds of millions of funds, and upgraded the software and hardware facilities on the campus, including the renovation of modern multi-functional classrooms, Fifty Classroom, Student Society and Club Building, Athletic Tracks and Fields, Rainy-Day Stadium, Heaven and Earth Square, Waterside Square, Art and Culture Center, etc. The overall campus beautification work has also made the campus look brand new, creating a suitable environment for student to develop their specialties and providing a training base for talents demanded by enterprises. In addition, STUST has raised more than seven million NTD as an educational support to economically disadvantaged students. The Ministry of Education offered STUST a proportional grant of five million NTD and other subsidies, totaling more than 27 million NTD, which greatly contributed to attracting students to study at STUST. In recent years, students have been encouraged to enter into internships in major domestic factories, such as Nanmao, UMC, TSMC, Innolux, Tainan Textile, Nanguang Chemical Pharmaceutical, GARMIN, Epistar, and KYEC, allowing students to accumulate energy, smoothly become connected with the future job market, and enter the workplace to pursue their dreams in life.
Under the influence of all these endeavors, the teachers and students of STUST have also performed very well. This year, students of STUST won 3 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze in the 2022 National Technical College Student Practical Project Production Contest, held by the Ministry of Education, ranking among the top universities. They also won the 2022 National Defense Education Outstanding Contribution Award by the Ministry of National Defense, the 2022 Future Technology Award, and many others. In sports, STUST won 2 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronzes in the 2022 National College Sports Competition and won 3 golds and 4 bronzes silvers in the Athletics Open Competition. In addition, STUST constantly holds music competitions and arts and cultural activities to cultivate students' humanistic and artistic atmosphere, so that students can make great progress in professional studies, arts and humanities, and sports activities.
President Deng-maw Lu said that STUST has always been committed to the selfless dedication of "spending on students whatever is taken from students," implementing the concept of "student-centered education" to run the university. In the face of different competitions and impacts, STUST has adopted a strategy that is entirely different from the wait-and-see approach of other universities; a lot of human and material resources have been invested in advance so that students can obtain more abundant learning resources. President Lu hopes that the performance of STUST can be consistently trusted by all sectors of our society, students, and parents. STUST will stick to the concept of making teachers devoted to teaching, bringing peace of mind to parents, giving reassurance to students, in order to attract more outstanding students to study at STUST.
