The STUST team with five students including Chi-lin Tsai, Chi-ying Cheng, Min-ling Li, Wei-sheng Du, and Yong-shiang Yang, led by Prof. Ya-lin Chen from the Department of Creative Product Design, STUST, recently won the 2022 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) with their work “Cookidlike.” Another work of the team—
"Wheelchair Accessible E-Scooter"—was also one of the finalists. The International Design Excellence Awards, co-organized by the American Society of Industrial Designers, is one of the largest and most prestigious design awards in the world. There are only a handful of Taiwanese student teams who have won the IDEA Design Award over the past ten years. The students of the same team achieved great results with two entries in this competition, proving the international strength of the students of STUST.

The work "Cookidlike—Children's Kitchenware Picture Book," which won the bronze award this time, was designed for children aged 4-6 by five students from the Department of Production and Design—Chi-lin Tsai, Chi-ying Cheng, Min-ling Li, Wei-sheng Du, and Yong-shiang Yang. Their kitchenware picture book uses the story of the picture book to guide children to operate the kitchenware supplies. Parents can also participate in the reading together. The whole set of the product is extended with the existing characteristics of marine creatures. It only needs to be grasped, pinched, held, pressed and mixed to operate. It is hoped that children can use Cookidlike to train the grasping ability of their hands, increase their flexibility and coordination, and also enhance the parent-child relationship.

The work "Wheelchair Accessible E-Scooter" by the same five students is a wheelchair accessible assisted Locomotive. The opening and closing design of the car body can reduce the parking volume. The automatic lifting sensor and handrail design can assist wheelchairs to get on and off the scooter. The buckle can stabilize the wheelchair and the car body, which can make the riding more stable. The universal wheel makes the steering more flexible. This work can improve the inconvenience of wheelchair users when going out. It is expected to create a "zero-touch" and stable and comfortable driving experience for the disabled.

Prof. Ya-lin Chen, the instructor of the winning team, said that the biggest contributor to the two awards at the same time was the team's concerted efforts over the past year in diligently conducting interviews and field verifications as they strived to overcome difficulties and constantly revise their works. Only through improvement could they put the two works—"Cookidlike" and "Wheelchair Accessible E-Scooter" –in the global arena at the same time, compete with world-class universities and enterprises, show world-class standards, and win glory for the country.
