  2022 STUST Academic and Teaching Seminar on Literacy Orientation and Interdiscplinary Teaching Practice    2022/10/12    

 

The General Education Center of STUST held the 2022 Academic and Teaching Seminar on Literacy Orientation and Interdiscplinary Teaching Practice in order to encourage teachers to enhance literacy-oriented teaching knowledge and conduct related to research on teaching practice. By sharing the achievement of literacy-oriented and interdiscplinary teaching as well as the exchange and sharing of teaching ideas and methods, it was hoped that teachers could obtain more different inspirational thinking and energy and that they can improve their teaching knowledge and research level in literacy-oriented and interdiscplinary teaching.

Since the 108th academic year, Taiwan’s vocational high schools have implemented a new curriculum focused on literacy-oriented learning. In order to help students develop their academic literacy ability, the General Education Center of STUST launched the higher education deep cultivation plan a lot earlier than the Ministry of Education officially, actively promoting the reform of general education courses, encouraging teachers to plan general education courses with innovative literacy-oriented teaching and interdiscplinary teaching, and implementing the practice and innovation of teaching research.

The 2022 Academic and Teaching Seminar on Literacy Orientation and Interdiscplinary Teaching Practice presented a total of nine papers, with themes including "Buanyu City—An Inquiry into the Sense of Place and Practical Actions in the Heritage Market," "Tainan Landscape in Japanese Literature Class," “Day Reading—Taking Travel Writing in Taiwan During the Japanese Occupation as an Example,” "Construction of Professional Knowledge and Learning Effectiveness—Taking the Winter Vacation Camp Team of ‘Care for Materials and Food for Sustainability’ as an Example," "Critical thinking under the Guidance of Literacy in Engineering Ethics—A Teaching Practice," "Playing Board Games and Writing in Action—Teaching and Research of Freshman Chinese Courses," "Talking about Students' Attitudes to Service—Learning from the Interdiscplinary Course of ‘Guide and Interpretation Training’ to Practice ‘Aesthetics of Life’,” "Changes brought by Internet Technology to Teaching Today—Taking General Courses in Taiwan and the World as an Example", "A Study on Improving the Learning Motivation of E-commerce Case Courses with PBL Teaching Method," and "Course Design and Practice of Interdiscplinary Teaching–the course “Aesthetics of Life and Art Healing” as the Core.” The content was diverse and rich, fully demonstrating the achievements of STUST in recent years in literacy and interdiscplinary-oriented teaching practice and research innovation.

Prof. Chi-liang Chu, Vice President of STUST, said that it was a great honor for this seminar to invite Dr. Bai-hong Liu, a tenured professor of General Education Center, National Chinyi University of Science and Technology, to give a speech on "Renewing with the Ancients—From the History of Knowledge to Innovative Interdisciplinary Teaching." The keynote speech on this topic would give greatly inspire STUST teachers in their future general education planning and teaching research. He thanked Prof. Bai-hong Liu, Prof. Jia-ling Luo, Prof. Ching-long Shie, Prof. Ai-ling Chiu, Professor Jing Yang, Prof. Dong-you Shie, Prof. Jie-ming Yang, and the incisive comments of Prof. Chong-shiu Chen, which added particular value to the paper. He looked forward to continuing to hold such academic seminars in the future, to communicating and interacting with scholars from all walks of life, and to bringing more help to literacy-oriented and interdiscplinary teaching practice and innovation.
