  STUST held the Cultural Heritage Exhibition at School History Museum: cultural heritage exchange, interdisciplinary innovation, sustainable development, passing down from generation to generation    2022/11/14    

 

STUST held the Cultural Heritage Exhibition at School History Museum at the Humanities and Arts Building on the 14th of November. The ceremony was presided over by President Deng-mao Lu of STUST. Representatives of the board of directors, alumni associations, and people from all walks of life were invited to visit the newly renovated School History Museum. The atmosphere was warm and lively.

There are three areas on the first floor of the Humanities and Arts Building of STUST, including the Ancient Machinery Exhibition hall, 3D Digital Gallery, and a small stage in the central area that can be used for presentations or exhibitions. The second floor is a small lecture hall and a special classroom for general education. The third floor is the School History Museum, which includes the "Wen-bing Shin Memorial Cultural Heritage Room" and serves the teaching of general education history to make students understand the history and spirit of STUST's founding. The Jishian Hall in the fourth flood is a dynamic activity area, providing various functions such as various lectures, community activities, general education and achievement exhibitions.

STUST has been bidding for the renovation of the School History Museum since the beginning of January 2022, and it completed the renovation and interior decoration in mid-June this year. The logo of the School History Museum uses the campus public art—"Heaven and Earth" as the image of the logo design element, takes the first of 1969 as the founding year of the university, and leads the visitors to appreciate the rich history and brilliant documentary of the university.

After the reconstruction of the School History Museum, STUST gathered together all the gifts presented by the 231 sister schools over the past years and began to display them on a regular schedule. This has fully demonstrated the achievements of cross-regional cultural exchanges. The museum also displays a number of gifts and cultural heritage from Japan, South Korea, and other universities, allowing visitors to have a general impression of the cultures of Japan, Korea, and other countries of the world.

There are two national treasure-level cultural heritage from South Korea in this exhibition. One is the "Golden Crown of Tianma Mound," which was presented by South Korea's Houcheng Academy and Donggang University to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the founding of STUST. It is designated as National Treasure No. 188, and the second is the "Songdeok King God Bell," commemorating the upgrade of STUST Institute of Technology by Dongshin Specialized University in South Korea. It is designated as National Treasure No. 29. The display of national treasure-level cultural heritage adds to the historical value of the collection in the School History Museum. In addition, the museum exhibits rare treasures from various countries, various famous lacquerware, pottery, bottle ware, gold ornaments, dishes, wood carvings, crystals, paintings, painted plates, musical instruments, etc. People are welcome to come and watch the exhibition for an expansion of international art horizons for personal knowledge.

Deng-mao Lu, President of STUST, said that the School History Museum will be re-opened after renovation. The core philosophy of general education at STUST is to implement the school’s philosophy of "cultivating students' humanistic literacy." In response to the challenges of the declining birthrate, STUST has continued to invest in innovative teaching and improving the campus environment, so as to develop cultural connotations and attain the goal of inheritance and sustainability of the School History Museum. In recent years, STUST has spent hundreds of millions of funds on campus beautification, software and hardware equipment, and field renovation projects. All of these are meant for students’ learning and the humanistic quality of STUST as a whole.

STUST History Museum Cultural Heritage Exhibition was open Monday through Friday, from November 14 to 18. For a group visit, please contact the office of the STUST General Education Center (06-2533131#6201). In the future, the management of the School History Museum will be combined with general education, assisted by teachers with relevant expertise in the general education center. The museum will be open sporadically and on a regular basis.
