The Board of Directors of STUST elected Professor Cheng-wen Wu the fifth president on the 17th of November. The election result will be reported to the Ministry of Education for approval. The term of office will start on February 1, 2023 and end on January 31, 2017.
Chairman Dr. Hsin-hsiong Chang said that according to the regulations of election and dismissal of the president, the election committee, formed on June 29, 2022, was composed of 11 members, including directors' representatives and representatives of social justice, with 3 presidents of national universities and 1 director from the financial industry. From July 12 to September 14, 2011, the election committee publicly solicited candidates for the president. After careful discussion at three meetings, on October 13, 2011, they recommended three candidates to the board of directors according to the regulations of electing and dismissing the president. In the board meeting held on November 17, based on the school governance philosophy and the content of their interviews with the president candidates, the directors voted by secret ballot, and Professor Cheng-wen Wu, who was voted by more than half of the directors, was elected the fifth president of STUST.
The directors of STUST had high expectations for the new president, hoping to choose a president who can help STUST go international and enhance innovation and research, so as to be well connected with emerging technology industries (AI, 5G, electric vehicles, green energy) and able to cultivate first-class talents. They listened carefully to the school management philosophy reports of the president candidates, asked in-depth questions, and elected the new president by secret ballot. Of course, the participants today are all excellent in knowledge and capability. It is inevitable that only one of them could be elected, but the board still thanked all the candidates who participated in the election of the fifth president of STUST and all the support for the school. The board also hoped that those who were not elected would continue to care for STUST and help STUST improve to a higher level.
