STUST's award-winning U-start excellent team recently received awards in the U-start Project and Yuanyang Project Award Ceremony and Achievement Exhibition. There were only three outstanding award-winning teams from private technology universities in Taiwan. STUST has been dedicated to the entrepreneurship of teachers and students on campus, with entrepreneurial teams achieving excellent results. This year, two student teams were mentored by the U-start Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program of the Youth Development Agency of the Ministry of Education, winning the first phase of entrepreneurship subsidies and a total of 1 million NTD subsidies. Tactile Technology Co., Ltd. was selected as an outstanding team and was awarded a bonus of 300,000 NTD.

Before participating in the U-start project, the team members were mainly composed of students from the Department of Electrical Engineering, STUST. Associate Professor Aaron Raymond See guided the team to develop visually impaired assistive devices. After the technology matured, the team Invite Feng-yi Yang (currently studying GMBA), who was directed by Professor Jia-hua Chang from the Department of Industrial Management and Information, to be the person in charge. With what he had learned, he established an innovative business model for the team and established "Tactile Technology Co., Ltd." The company members include Associate Professor Aaron Raymond See, Feng-yi Yang, Yu-hao Liu, and Jose Antonio Choco. The team designed the "tactile learning aid system" in order to provide educational resources for the visually impaired and the blind in learning and functional training. The system uses AI machine learning, image processing, cloud computing, and natural language technologies, such as processing and 3D reconstruction. It can produce different types of tactile teaching materials, and the output can generate 3D and 2.5D printing file formats for application with different devices.

The original intention of the company was to solve the social problem that there has been a lack of teaching materials for the visually impaired. During the planning period, the team contacted experts from various industries to apply the sensory experience of touch in various fields, integrate the school's cultivation resources, and cooperate with the outside world. The scale of the company has been gradually expanding. The team has also achieved good results in the Zhenglong Group Spring Breeze Shared Thinking Project and the Digital Technology Solution Competition of the Industrial Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. They won the favor of many enterprises and scholars in the industry, which has led to further cooperation.

President of STUST Deng-maw Lu said that STUST upholds the pragmatic and practical campus culture, constructs a three-creative learning atmosphere of "creativity-innovation-entrepreneurship," guides students to create ideas, turn ideas into practical actions, and move towards the industry. It will also assist in the commercialization of innovative R&D results, spread the campus R&D results, and create a three-innovation-rooted education and talent cultivation system. The team’s company is expected to be a benchmark school for entrepreneurship education in universities of technology and science.
