  STUST developed multiple solutions for local issues and invested in abundant social energy: All of the five USR Implementation Plans passed the third phase USR application held by the Ministry of Education    2023/5/4    

 

STUST recently received five grants from the Ministry of Education's third phase of the University Social Responsibility Practice Program. This achievement is the best performance of the school over the years in terms of the number of projects, showing the school’s actions and achievements in developing multiple solutions for local issues with university majors over the years, as well as the commitment of teachers and students to social practice. Their abundant energy has been affirmed by the Ministry of Education.

【STUST USR team “Youth and Elderly Co-creation of Local Wisdom—Strength of Ageless Freedom” was introducing various life-saving assistive devices to STUST students, sharing the concept and practices of an elderly-friendly community.】

STUST has been investing in the USR program since 2016. Pragmatic communications established a long-term mutual trust partnership. In the future, it will continue to promote health, cultural sustainability, local creation, social integration, green energy development and sustainable environment. On local issues, STUST gives full play to the positive influence of universities as local think tanks. Among them, the sustainable development characteristic project "Youth and Elderly Co-creation of Local Wisdom—Strength of Ageless Freedom" integrates the welfare of the elderly and technology application technology, and assists in creating an elderly-friendly environment locally with smart and precise health care. The deep-cultivation project "Local Creation and Dissemination of Cultural Heritage—Fucheng vs. Yuejin" will cooperate with the residents of the old street to deepen the operation of the neighborhood museum, enrich the cultural heritage and create a local circular economy model. STUST looks forward to these two advanced projects, with which teachers and students, local government departments, and community partners, can develop a unique local sustainable model.

【STUST "Local Creation and Dissemination of Cultural Heritage—Fucheng vs. Yuejin" USR Project plans to develop "Shennong Street Block Museum Monopoly" to create something that can be visited, played, appreciated, learned, and felt Neighborhood local museums.】

At the same time, the three on-campus seed-type projects that participated in the evaluation this time have all successfully advanced into university-specific sprout projects. Among them, "Lighting up Zuozhen Together—Creative Life Value-Added Project" is based on creative life design. The method activates the terroir and resources of Zuozhen and helps to create a charming town with terroir experience. "Crossing Joy of Music: From the South to the West to Integrate Art" gathers community consensus through inclusive creations and assists Sigang to develop rural value-added creative marketing. "Carbon-storage for fishing: Cross-border Integration and Sustainable Net-zero Development Plan of Green Power Generation and Smart Farming in Tuchengzai” introduces green power generation and energy-saving technologies into fish farms to promote local economic and environmental sustainability and continued development.

【STUST "Lighting up Zuozhen Together—Creative Life Value-Added Project" used creative life design methods to revitalize Zuozhen's local resources, as the elders in the community tried out the board game—"Dream Back to the Old Street Adventure."】

With the injection of USR project resources, STUST encourages teachers to participate in social practice courses. Teachers and students work together to go into the community to reconstruct course content with local issues and integrate social practice elements, such as field practice, which enriches the university. The diversity of life also brings them inspiration for their own professional lives. The input of the university's professional energy and the integration of regional resources also help to refine local characteristic and active business models, promote growth momentum, and drive innovation and sustainable development of industries and communities.

【Participating students of STUST's "Crossing Joy of Music: From the South to the West to Integrate Art" project and the residents of Sigang jointly created 10 songs about Sigang and held a concert to show the achievements of inclusive creation.】

President Cheng-wen Wu of STUST said that STUST has achieved good results in the third phase of the USR program review, which shows that STUST has been deeply involved in the field for many years. Through innovative courses and action plans, it has driven teachers and students to introduce social practice and implement professional exercises. The approach of sustainable development goals has been well recognized by all walks of life. In the future, STUST will continue to lead teachers and students out of the campus and into the local area, and create a better world with their own majors, so that all levels of society can feel its beauty, make cultural literacy a nutrient for talent cultivation, and bring more dynamic and sustainable talents to Taiwan, fulfilling the university's social responsibilities.
