  Department of Information Communication, Department of Visual Communication Design, and Department of Multimedia Entertainment Science, STUST, won 11 awards in the 32nd Times Golden Calf Award International Competition" and Industry-University Cooperation Contribution Award, showing fruitful results    2023/7/4    

 

College of Digital Design, STUST, recently won 11 awards in the Industry-University Cooperation Contribution Award and the 32nd Times Golden Calf Award International Competition. The award was given to Bing-chang Chen, Dean of The College of Digital Design, STUST. Mayor Hou encouraged young students to be eager to accept challenges, take responsibility bravely, and go out to pursue their life goals during the phase of their growth. There were many applications for this competition worldwide, and more than 100,000 entries have been received. The competition was very fierce and everyone must pass the test. One-third of the finalists were shortlisted. The final winning rate was less than 6%. It was the most difficult award-winning creative competition for advertising communication design. Teachers and students of College of Digital Design, STUST, were worthy of recognition for their winning all the awards in this iconic creative competition.

The 2023 Times Golden Calf Award International Competition, with the meaning of "a newborn calf is not afraid of tigers," encouraged young people to express their creativity bravely, serving as a bridge between enterprises and schools. Participants could learn about brands, markets, and the industry from the creative processes immediate situations and future trends to enhance competitiveness. This year, with the theme of "Only One Goal.” After the fierce competition of preliminary rounds, finals, and global finals, it attracted nearly 730,000 teachers and students from 1,500 schools of more than ten countries and regions, including Taiwan, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia, receiving a record high of a total of 102,700 works. In addition, this competition, known as the "Oscar of Youth Creativity," was committed to promoting industry-university cooperation. As a paradigm of industry-university cooperation, the Times Golden Calf Award offered themes based on multiple brands related to finance, technology, food and beverage, hospitality, particular cities, beliefs and cultures, etc., attracting more than 500,000 teachers and students from all over the world to participate in the competition every year.

College of Digital Design, STUST, actively made contributions. The Department of Information Communication, the Department of Visual Communication Design, and the Department of Multimedia and Entertainment Science submitted more than 500 works, with a total of 188 works shortlisted and awarded the Industry-University Cooperation Contribution Awards. The Department of Information Communication won 1 Golden Calf Award in the Global Final Review. In the four themed projects of the “Taiwan, China, and Overseas Regions Competition Area,” they won 1 first place, 1 third place, and 2 excellent work awards. The Department of Visual Communication Design won 1 first place, 1 3rd place, and 3 excellent awards in the "Taiwan, China, and Overseas Regions Competition Area. The Department of Multimedia and Entertainment Science won 1 excellent work awards in the "Taiwan, Mainland China and Overseas Regions Competition Area. In the three competition areas, STUST won a total of 11 awards, setting a new record for STUST in competitions over the years.

Prof. Dan-ching Liang from the Department of Information Communication, STUST, directed the creative team Bai-wei Guo, Yu-shuan Huang, Yu-fan Chiu, and Bing-feng Wang to plan and produce the creative audio-visual advertising work "God is Watching What People Are Doing " and won the Golden Calf Brand Image Advertising Design Award of Yongching Housing "Be Honest before Selling" Category (Global Final Review) and First Place in the Taiwan competition area of the 32nd Times Golden Calf Award International Competition. Prof. Dan-ching Liang from the Department of Information Communication, who has been directing students in the competition for several years, said that during the three months of preparing for the competition with the student team, she memorized 16 business propositions by heart before applying the strategic thinking of "beginning as the end" to deal with different team ideas. It is necessary to clarify and implement the management of creative creation projects, and devote a lot of effort every week to discussing with different creative teams and seeing the progress of their works. Being shortlisted for the Golden Calf Award is a proof of one's ability as well as a stepping stone to enter the industry. In addition, other award-winning teams of the Department of Information Communication also had outstanding performed. Yu-zhen Su, Shi-ying Zeng and Pei-ching Huang won third place of the Master Kong Advertising Design Award in Graphic Category, with their work "Just Be Simple!" Yu-yuan Feng, Bai-shiang Shen and Zhen Zeng Won the excellence award of the Jimu Brand Communication Advertising Design Award in Non-Plane Category with their work "In Jimu—shortening the distance between hearts." Bing-feng Wang, Jia-yi Chang, Chiao-chi Zhuang, Jia-chuan Chang, Jun-ting Liu, Yi-ting Li, Wei-shin Zeng, Kai-rui Guo, Shiang-ching Lian, Wei-chen Zhuang won the excellence award of Liby Master Fragrance Laundry Detergent Advertising Creative Design Award in the Non-Plane Category, with their work "Fragrance is a Fragment of My Daily Life."

The Department of Visual Communication Design, STUST, also achieved extraordinary results in the competition this year. The team led by teacher Ting-yao Hu of the Department of Visual Communication Design won first place, third place and excellence award. Rr-Chun Ko won first place in Yongching Housing Graphic Category; Yu-zhen Lin won third place of the Want Want Group Advertising Design Award in Brand Category-Graphic Project with her work "Tender QㄟQQ Sugar"; Pin-zhen Chen won excellent award of the Yongching Housing Brand Image Advertising Design Award in Graphic Category with her work "Value Linking Sincerity”; Jia-shun Lin won the excellent award of Want Want Group Advertising Design Award - Brand Graphic Category with his work "Curly Hair"; Shin-ting Wei won the excellent award of the Master Kong Advertising Design Award - Graphic Category with her work "Simply Embarking on the Road to Pokémon Master." Their advisor, Prof. Ting-yao Hu, always encourages students to train themselves to understand brands and the market, as well as the current situation and future trends of the industry, through industry-university cooperation and competitions, which can help improve their competitiveness and is more important than competition results.

Jia-chi Niu, Yi-huan Luo, and Yun-chian Chou, guided by Prof. Zheng-da Yang from the Department of Multimedia and Entertainment Science, STUST, won the excellence award of Want Want Group Advertising Design Award-Product Category in Non-Plane Category.

President Cheng-wen Wu of STUST said that STUST encourages teachers and students to participate in competitions in order to promote creative learning and industry-university cooperation, develop students' designing competence, and achieve the educational goal of cultivating "pragmatic and practical" talents and "integrating learning and application." This time, the College of Digital Design won the Industry-University Cooperation Contribution Award and 11 awards on the creative platform known as the Global Chinese Youth Creativity Oscar, which affirms STUST's efforts to cultivate "pioneers in digital design and communication," bringing glory back to the school.
