"I Bowling", which won the first place in the Avnet Technology—Smart Health and Smart Home Application Award, is a creative work directed by Li-yu Zhu and Shue-li Liu, guided by Prof. Jun-hong Yang from the Department of Electronics. It takes into account the equality issues in the SDGs and the development of sports technology. As the team members found, when the visually impaired bowlers are bowling, they need a volunteer to tell them the location of the bowling ball, the rolling direction and the remaining pins, etc. The visually impaired bowlers can use this information to adjust their stance and pitching direction, but they are restrained by the limited time they are given to cooperate with the volunteer. After understanding the needs of the visually impaired, they proposed a visually impaired bowling auxiliary system that uses image recognition to replace the role of volunteers. The research and development results can be matched with the two current mainstream bowling systems in Taiwan, namely, the AMF system and the Brunswick system.
