  The Department of Biology and Food Technology, STUST, won the gold medal in the 2024 Jiazoi! Nanwan PITCH Prize Competition and was selected into the College Entrepreneurship Practical Simulation Selection    2024/5/9    

 

The Department of Biology and Food Technology, STUST, recently won the gold medal of the Germination Group in the 2024 Jiazo! Nanwan PITCH BATTLE Health Innovation Industry Prize Competition. The organizers of this competition were Jialiang Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and Jiayi Innovation Center. The award-winning team of STUST was an entrepreneurial team—“Breaking through the Insect Siege”—directed by Director Da-wei Huang. The team members included Wei-cheng Lin, Tsen-hao Jian and Ting-yu Huang. Their work focuses on the study of barley worms. Through the core technology of barley worm breeding and Biological properties, people can solve environmental problems—such as land use, deforestation, excess water resources, and greenhouse gas emissions—and insects can create unlimited business opportunities!

This research won the gold medal of the 2024 Jiazo! Nanwan PITCH Prize Competition with a bonus of NT$12,000. The barley insect pet food under development received entrepreneurial guidance from the Research Development and Industry-Academic Cooperation Office of STUST and participated in the 112th Second-tier College Entrepreneurship Practical Simulation Learning Platform Competition by the Ministry of Education. It stood out from 259 college entrepreneurial teams, becoming one of the preferred team and receiving a fund of NT$ 100,000.

【“Breakthrough the Insect Siege” Entrepreneurship Team of the Department of Biology and Food Technology, STUST, was conducting research on the breeding environment of barley worms.】

Director Da-wei Huang of the Department of Biology and Food Technology, STUST, said that in the future the team would continue to convert the learning and research in the department into practical technologies and contribute to the sustainability of the earth's environment. The Research and Industry Office of STUST also provides relevant entrepreneurship resources and guidance, helping the entrepreneurial team develop their ideas towards commercialization. It will also help students overcome the bottlenecks in the early stages of entrepreneurship. It is hoped that the team will become a dazzling unicorn of STUST in the future.

STUST encourages and guides students to develop creative ideas and industrial application technologies, assist in the commercialization of innovative R&D results, and spread campus R&D results, hoping to become a benchmark school for entrepreneurship education in technical colleges.
