The Department of Child Care and Education, STUST, made great achievements in promoting international education and cultural exchanges recently. Professor Zhi-sheng Chen, Chair of the department, led three students, Fu-juan Zheng and Ya-jun Tang from the Department of Child Care and Education and Hong-chi Chen from the Department of Social Work of Asia University, to Metta School Kindergarten in Medan, Indonesia, through the foreign professional internship subsidy of the Ministry of Education's New Southbound Learning Dream Building Program, to conduct Chinese language teaching activities. The teaching work carried out by Chair Zhi-sheng Chen and his team at Metta School in Medan has been highly recognized by local teachers and students.

In response to the rapid growth in the number of students, Metta School in Medan built a new dedicated kindergarten. Its modern equipment and facilities amazed the students who participated in the internship. These novel educational facilities not only provide an ideal teaching environment, but also bring a new teaching experience to students.

This teaching activity was not just a simple classroom teaching. The local teachers also expressed a warm welcome to the Indonesian Medan Chinese teaching team. Chair Chen conducted training for early childhood teachers and Chinese teachers at Metta School in Medan, and was invited to participate in training lectures for local Chinese classes and had in-depth interactions with local high school students. Through exchanges with local students, Chair Chen actively introduced Taiwan’s education system and culture and invited Jing-zhou Tang, Director of the Department of International Studies at STUST, to interact with students online and encourage Indonesian students to study in Taiwan, further promoting the relationship between Taiwan and India and their educational cooperation. Medan Metta School also led students from Southern Taiwan to experience Medan’s multicultural customs and geographical landscapes in their spare time.

It is worth mentioning that this year, the Department of Child Care and Education, STUST, has approved seven projects from different teachers including Zhi-sheng Chen, Hui-min Ou, and Jia-bin Gao in the Ministry of Education’s Learning and Dreaming Project. These projects cover Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan and other countries, fully demonstrating the department’s positive actions and achievements in the field of international education. In addition to the successful promotion of the New Southbound Learning Dream Project, The Department of Child Care and Education, STUST, has also achieved remarkable results in the improvement of teaching resources and the professional growth of teachers. The department has applied for and been approved by the Ministry of Education's special class for teaching and nursing staff for two consecutive years, providing students with more diverse learning channels. In addition, teacher Mei-yi Shen of this department received a teaching practice project subsidy from the Ministry of Education and improved students' learning outcomes through innovative teaching models. Professor Shu-er Yang guided students to obtain special project subsidies from the National Science Council, laying a solid foundation for students in the research field.

The efforts of The Department of Child Care and Education, STUST, are reflected in international cooperation and academic research. Professor De-guang Chou, Acting President of STUST, said that with globalization, the increase in dual-income families and the increasing emphasis on early childhood education in various countries, many Southeast Asian countries are actively looking for early childhood care professionals with professional knowledge, skills and proficiency in Chinese. Teachers and students of the Department of Child Care and Education, STUST, actively participate in the New Southbound International Professional Internship Exchange Program every year, which not only promotes international cultural exchanges, but also enhances the international competitiveness of Taiwan’s early childhood care professionals.
