  Distinguished Professor Neng-fu Huang from Tsing Hua University was elected the sixth president of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology    2024/10/17    

 

The Board of Directors of STUST conducted the election of its sixth president on November 16. After many rounds of careful discussions and voting, Professor Neng-fu Huang, a distinguished professor of the Department of Information Engineering, School of Electrical and Computer Science, National Tsing Hua University, stood out and officially became the new president. The election result will be submitted to the Ministry of Education for approval before he is appointed for a term from December 1, 2024 to November 30, 2028.

As Dr. Hsin-hsiong Chang, Chairman of STUST pointed out, in accordance with the president’s election and dismissal regulations, the election committee is composed of 11 members including board representatives and community representatives, including two former presidents of national universities and one former deputy director of a museum. The election committee publicly solicited candidates for the president from July 10 to September 16, 2014. After discussions at four meetings, it finally recommended two candidates. At the board of directors meeting, Professor Neng-fu Huang was elected as the sixth president of STUST.

Professor Neng-fu Huang is currently a Distinguished Professor of the Department of Information Engineering, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National Tsing Hua University. He has rich academic and industrial experience, with a solid academic background and a PhD in Information Engineering from National Tsing Hua University. Professor Huang has served as the dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, chairman and professor of the Department of Information Engineering at Tsing Hua University; he has made outstanding achievements in the fields of information security, Internet of Things, and smart agriculture.

The Moocs Platform and Weibo Technology Co., Ltd., founded by Professor Huang, have demonstrated their profound professional knowledge and innovative spirit in the field of information engineering. Professor Huang has been teaching at National Tsing Hua University for more than 35 years. He has won many Outstanding Teaching Teacher Awards from Tsing Hua University as well as awards from the Ministry of Education for teaching excellence and textbook compilation, which proves his enthusiasm and hard work for teaching.

In terms of talent cultivation, Professor Huang has unique insights. He believes that the greatest value of education lies in the integration of learning and application, and is committed to cultivating suitable talents for industrial development. His teaching philosophy and practice demonstrate his passion for education and innovation, bringing profound impact to students and society.

Professor Huang has also made great achievements in promoting smart agriculture. He applies Internet of Things and artificial intelligence technology to agriculture, improving the quality and yield of agricultural products, and solving the problems of aging rural population and labor shortage. The smart agriculture projects he leads include the establishment of a smart greenhouse demonstration base at Guanghua High School in Taichung, which teaches students to master the latest technology through practice.

In addition, Professor Huang emphasized the importance of 5G and blockchain technology in smart agriculture. Through high-resolution images and data analysis, agricultural product traceability and production process automation management are realized, allowing agriculture to be modernized and developed sustainably. His vision is to improve the controllability and transparency of agricultural production through technological innovation.

In "Future Outlook of STUST," Chairman Hsin-hsiong Chang of STUST emphasizes that the board of directors has high expectations for the new president and hopes that he can lead STUST to go global, deepen innovation and research, and connect emerging technology industries (such as AI, 5G, electric vehicles, Green energy) to cultivate first-class technical and vocational talents. He showed great thanks to all the candidates who participated in the election for their support of the school, and he hopes that they will continue to support STUST and take the university to the next level.

STUST indicated that the appointment of Professor Neng-fu Huang stands for a new starting point for STUST in academic research and education. Under his leadership and the guidance of AI artificial intelligence technology, STUST will continue to move towards excellence, bring more innovations and breakthroughs, create more value for students and society, and become an important driving force for the development of Southern Taiwan. At the same time, it will achieve greater academic breakthroughs and social influence and further enhance the international competitiveness and social contribution of STUST.
