STUST held the 2024 International Symposium on Novel and Sustainable Technology ISNST, continuing to take the lead of academic exchanges. Since its inception in 2003, this symposium has become an important academic platform in the Asia-Pacific region. This year, more than 220 scholars and experts from seven countries around the world (Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, etc.) gathered together to have discussions on forward-looking topics, such as semiconductors and smart cities, injecting new ideas and energy into the development of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry.

At the opening ceremony, acting President De-guang Zhou of STUST and Secretary-in-Chief Jian-de Wu of the Bureau of Economic Development, Tainan City Government, delivered speeches respectively. After that, many domestic and foreign eminent scholars and experts shared the latest research results. Among them, Distinguished Professor Masahiro Aoyagi of Kumamoto University in Japan took TSMC's establishment of a factory in Kumamoto as an example and shared the successful experience of industry-university cooperation in cultivating semiconductor talents. Chair Professor Tuo-hong Hou of National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University gave an in-depth analysis of Taiwan’s competitive advantages in the semiconductor industry. In addition, Professor Mitsunobu Sato, former president of Nihon Kogakuin University, also shared the key role of optoelectronic semiconductor materials in the development of smart cities.

Other topics of the seminar also covered "Advanced Manufacturing Technology," "Smart Systems and Electronics," "Electrical and Semiconductor Technology," "Biological and Food Technology," "Chemical and Materials Engineering," and "Engineering Education and Talent Cultivation." There were more than 200 papers submitted to this seminar, including 2 special keynote speeches, 22 invited speeches, 42 oral reports and 140 posters. Participants of the conference also had inspiring discussions and exchanges.

This seminar has become the most important international event of STUST every year.
