  STUST successfully held the 2025 International Symposium on Innovation Digital Design to explore creativity and the future of the AI era    2025/4/29    

 

On April 25, the College of Digital Design at STUST hosted the 2025 International Symposium on Innovation Digital Design under the theme "Creativity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence." The conference successfully brought together creative elites from around the world and sparked innovative thinking, focusing on how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the future of digital communication and design and featuring three distinguished international scholars as keynote speakers, who shared their professional insights and research findings.

The first keynote speaker was Lim Chong Jin, Dean of the School of Design at Temasek Polytechnic. With 40 years of experience in design education and advertising practice, he delivered a compelling speech titled "Human Imagination in the Age of Artificial Intelligence." He explained how AI can become a creative partner rather than a replacement, guided by human intuition, emotion, and cultural understanding. Professor Lim emphasized that only human imagination can create emotionally resonant content and advocated for a collaborative relationship between AI and humans in the creative process.

The second keynote speaker was Dr. Aloysius Yapp, Assistant Professor at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, who gave an in-depth presentation on the topic “Metaverse: Application of Artificial Intelligence and Immersive Technology in Cultural Preservation” and shared his leading research in immersive technologies. Dr. Yapp showcased the potential of the Metaverse in education and cultural conservation through examples demonstrating how AI and VR/AR technologies can be used to preserve cultural heritage, inspiring participants to deeply consider the limitless possibilities of immersive technology.

The third keynote speaker was Dr. Janaka Rajapakse, Associate Professor at the Institute of Animation Art and Image Aesthetics, National Tainan University of the Arts. His keynote speech, titled "Flaws and Perfection in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," began with the aesthetics of wabi-sabi and critically analyzed the tendency of AI to overlook flaws in the pursuit of perfection. Dr. Rajapakse argued that embracing imperfection can inspire ethical reflection and human connection in AI, thereby redefining the value and direction of intelligence.

The successful execution of this conference provided a valuable platform for communication between the global academic community and the design industry. Participants not only gained a deeper understanding of the latest trends in AI-powered digital design and communication, but also drew creative inspiration and new perspectives on design thinking through the presentation of over 40 academic papers and the participation of more than 180 attendees. Looking ahead, the College of Digital Design at STUST will continue to promote internationalization and interdisciplinary collaboration to embrace the countless challenges and opportunities of the AI era.
