AI Maker in Action: Addressing Agricultural Challenges with Patented Smart Tapping Sticks

As a pioneer in AI-driven smart agriculture, President Nen-Fu Huang not only presented the achievements of AI smart agriculture in an accessible manner during the training camp but also personally demonstrated the platform’s innovative features. Using the Republic of China–patented “AI Smart Tapping Stick” as an example, President Huang explained how the traditional technique of “listening to the sound before determining ripeness” used by melon graders was transformed into an AI model to help farmers determine the ripeness of their produce more accurately. Currently, this technology is applied in automated pineapple grading machines, significantly improving efficiency. President Huang also demonstrated the use of AR glasses, giving teachers a firsthand look at how AI technology can reduce farmers’ burdens and enhance agricultural productivity, embodying the pragmatic spirit of “bringing technology to the field.”

Cross-Sector Collaboration: Industry–University Alliance Fosters Teacher Training

The training camp was organized by STUST, with co-sponsorship from the Taiwan Artificial Intelligence School, Jorjin Technologies Co., Ltd., and the Taiwan Artificial Intelligence Industry Association. The curriculum covered fundamental AI applications, an introduction to the AI Maker platform, and training in AI visual model development and evaluation. Through this systematically designed program, high school and vocational school teachers can quickly gain the essential skills to teach AI effectively and become seed teachers who will drive AI education in their respective schools. This collaboration between industry and academia fully reflects the shared commitment and proactive efforts of all sectors in advancing AI education.

Training Practice: Hands-on AI Teaching Help Deepen Educational Application

The success of this training camp is a significant follow-up to STUST’s vision set during the launch of the “AI Maker Platform” press conference on June 26. Through intensive courses, participating teachers gained a deeper understanding of AI fundamentals and engaged in hands-on sessions where they worked in groups to explore AI vision and AI hearing training modules. They personally operated the AI Maker platform to train and evaluate AI models. This practical approach enables teachers to directly transform their acquired knowledge into teaching tools, making them partners with STUST in promoting AI education from Southern Taiwan to high schools and vocational schools nationwide.
