Yu-Ting Chen from Applied English Department, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, was awarded the 2018 Korean Language Exchange Scholarship by the Ministry of Education.

Yu-Ting Chen from Applied English Department, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, was recently awarded the 2018 Korean Language Exchange Scholarship by the Ministry of Education. It is not easy to be listed among the only eight students in the country. This Korean language study scholarship was offered by seven Korean universities, including Korea Foreign Studies University, Seoul National University, and Sun Moon University, which would bring opportunities for eight students from Taiwan to study Korean language in South Korea. Chen has been admitted to Sun Moon University and given a monthly living allowance of approximately NT$10,000 every month from the Korean government as well as a scholarship provided by the university to cover the Korean language training fee.

Since her high school days, Yu-Ting Chen has had a lot of love and interest in Korean language and culture. She has been learning Korean for about 4 years and participated in the Korean Language Proficiency Test to improve her language skills. After studying at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Yu-Ting Chen has been actively involved in school activities related to Korean language and culture, in addition to continuing to improve his own Korean language. For example, she was the interpreter for Director Ahn Jae-Hoon from South Korea when he was invited to share his professional knowledge and experience in Tainan Painting Generation Animation Film Festival at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, sponsored by Tainan City Government. The director is a well-known Korean animation director, and the whole event was interpreted by Chen. In addition, Chen will work as an interpreter in the 2018 Chinese Summer Camp for Seowon University, a sister school of to apply for Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology.

As Yu-Ting Chen said, she is especially grateful to her parents for their hard work and to her family for their support, which allows her to learn and grow without worries. She would like to thank all the teachers who have taught or led her to learn a lot of professional knowledge and valuable experience. She is also grateful to Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology for providing such a good learning environment and opportunities for her to enhance and demonstrate the results of Korean learning.

According to Chairman Ya-Zhen Su of Applied English Department, Yu-Ting Chen has worked very hard in all aspects, her personality was lively, and she was an adaptable student. Chen loves Korean language and culture; she went to the Korean students in the department to learn Korean in her spare time and eventually became a good friend of them. She also assisted Korean speakers in classes of general education by doing Chinese-Korean interpretations.

In the coming year of studying Korean language in Korea, Chen hopes to work hard with the support of his family and teachers. After her return to Taiwan, she hopes that she will be able to improve his language skills and have the opportunity to participate in exchanges between local schools and schools in South Korea.
