In the year of 2013, the Ministry of Science and Technology promoted the small-scale project of industry and academia. The academic community and the technical laboratory set up a new state-of-the-art technology platform to help domestic small and medium-sized enterprises transform, upgrade, and grow steadily. In order to continue promoting the exchange of production results and more opportunities for cooperation, the Ministry of Science and Technology held an achievement exhibition on the results of the small-scale project of industry and academia. In the exhibition, nine outstanding technology associations were presented, including the Large-Scale Multimedia Interactive Entertainment Technology R&D Alliance, directed by Prof. Hwa-Cheng Chang of the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, which won the Award of Excellent Alliance in the Innovation Service and Education Group.

In consideration that there has been a huge gap between academic research results and the industry and that SMEs account for the majority of domestic economy, there is great need for energy for research and development. Through mutual cooperation between industry and academia, the interaction between industry and academia should be effectively implemented to enhance the competitiveness of the industry. In this plan, there are eight major fields, including the civil energy ring group, the biomedical group, the Life Chemical Group, the Economic Management and Information Service Group, the Information Communication Group, the Electronic Group, the Electromechanical Materials Group, and the Innovation Service and Education Group. In the alliance, it is not easy for the South Taiwan University of Science and Technology to win the Award of Excellent Alliance but its Large-Scale Multimedia Interactive Entertainment Technology R&D Alliance.

Prof. Hwa-Cheng Chang, Director of the alliance program, said that large-scale multimedia interactive entertainment is a technology-intensive and creative-intensive industry. However, the scale of the company is still small, and the technology research and development and business promotion are limited. Through the cooperation platform of the Large-Scale Multimedia Interactive Entertainment Technology Research and Development Alliance, the team can break the scale and limitation of the traditional industry-university cooperation model, effectively implementing the mutual exchange of technology and market opportunities, substantially benefiting members, and significantly improving the performance of industry-university cooperation, technology transfer, and talent cultivation. Member can thereby have more business opportunities and move toward overseas markets.
