In order to help high school students, society and enterprises on understanding more about the practical aspects and uses of vocational education, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology held the 2018 Higher Education Sprout Program Achievement Exhibition, offering wonderful contents and winning great acclaim.

This event was held for the fourth consecutive year at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. The exhibition not only showed the research and development achievements of the university, but also invited teachers and students from a total of 23 senior high schools to experience the results. The purpose was to promote cooperation with senior high schools, integrate educational resources, and strengthen the linkage between the two different periods of students’ learning. There were a total of 8 exhibition areas, including Formula Racing, Energy-Saving Vehicles, Off-Road Vehicles, Extreme Power Technology Center Engines and Locomotives, Computer Mouse, State-owned Enterprises, Food and Beverage International Competition Results, and Overseas Internships.

The visiting schools came from Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung City, with a total of 2,200 teachers and students. During the event, there were performances of music by students of the Department of Pop Music Industry, the drone flying show by the Department of Electronic Engineering by Prof Zhi-Ching Li, and the robot dancing given by Prof. Ming-Yuan Shei. The activities were wonderful and exciting. In addition, the high school students also visited the campus, including the library, the sixth dormitory, and the food area in the W Building, which helped students learn more about the diversity of life at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology.

Ming-Tsai Lai, Vice President of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has built a professional hardware structure under the support of the Ministry of Education's "High School Education Sprout Program," "Model University of Science and Technology Program," and "Teaching Excellence Program." The newly completed Inter-Collegial Alliance Industry Technology and Internship Building and the Technology Research and Development Center for Elderly Service are both for promoting the development of vocational education. Over the past few years, STUST has successfully and effectively shortened the gap between learning and utilization through its connection with industrial sectors, taking into account the development trend of different industries, enhancing students' ability in workplace, and jointly cultivating talented students for industries. For all these, in the achievement results exhibition, high school teachers and students were invited to participate in the activities to enhance the students' interest in learning as well as their interaction with universities of science and technology. At the same time, they also came to understand that vocational education can provide students with a suitable learning environment and different qualities; thereby students can acquire professional skills and then develop their talents and find their own world.
