The 3rd Southern Taiwan Lions Roar Pop Music Contest was successfully completed as new generations from high schools nationwide showed their amazing performances.

The 3rd Southern Taiwan Lions Roar Pop Music Contest, held by Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, saw its final at the Concert Hall of N Building of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. The exciting competition proceeded with the professional evaluation of the Golden Melody Instructors before it ended with President Deng-Maw Lu encouraging all the participants in the competition. The event was organized by the Department of Popular Music Industry, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. From the planning of the contest to the control of lighting and sounds, all the teachers and students of the department jointed together in planning and designing. The final venue for the contest cost STUST more than NT$ 23,300,000. It was lively and extraordinary, with more than 100 participants and guests from high school nationwide.

In order to offer have more opportunities to the new generations of high school students to participate in the contest, it was expanded into two major groups: the Vocalist Group and the Pop Band Group. Over two days of the finals, the Golden Songs Mentor Group was appointed as the judges, and the eight musical mentors who won the Golden Melody Awards were invited by the Department of Pop Music Industry to the finals. On the first day, there were Meng-Hui Wu (Amon), Wu Menghui, Yue-Zhen Chou (Little Lily), Deng-Chang Tsao, and Sheng-Fei Lu from Infinite Fusion. On the second day, Zhi-Min Hsu (Bitter Melon), Da-Jin Huang, Shi-An Chang (head of "3 Changs and 5 Lis"), and Yi-Bai Wei-Ji. They are among the long-established music tutors of the industry to give the new generation musicians the most professional and the most practical commentary.

There were a large number of people enrolled in the competition. More than 50 participants signed up for the Vocalist Group, while than 30 groups signed up for the Pop Band Group. The number of participants filled the group lists, showing not only the appeal of the overall planning of the event, but also the vigor of the younger generations in the pop music industry in Taiwan. Participants came from many high schools all over North, Central, and South Taiwan, including even the outer Islands. The songs they sang also included a variety of languages, such as Chinese, aboriginal languages, Taiwanese, English, and Korean. The genre encompassed popular, folk, rock, funk, hip hop, and heavy metal, suggesting the diversity and international outlook of Taiwan's music industry. It was also worth mentioning that the majority of Pop Band Group finalists were the songs they created for themselves, which showed the creativity and enthusiasm of Taiwan's musicians of new generations as well as the continued vitality of the pop music industry.

Deng-Maw Lu, President of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, expressed his gratitude to the judges, students, and parents as he welcomed the participants. President Lu said that this competition was held in the newly built Concert Hall in the N Building, a better venue for the participating guests to perform. The concert hall is now managed by the Department of Pop Music Industry, where all the decorations and facilities are worth more than $NT 23 million. STUST established the Department of Pop Music Industry four years ago, aimed at teaching contents that included pre-screen performances, behind-the-scenes projects, behind-the-scenes production, acting artists, etc. It is very different from the departments of traditional music, taught by many professional teachers invited to the university. The contest presented the results of the four-year history of the Department of Pop Music Industry to the teachers and participants. On behalf of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, President Lu sincerely welcomed everyone to the big family of the pop music industry. Whether or not winning the competition, this would be an important part of everyone’s life of learning. From the practice before the game to the current performance, everyone would definitely have a great harvest.
