Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology implemented the University's Social Responsibility Program (USR) sponsored by the Ministry of Education of through the power of innovative technology and new media to attain the project goal of “building up a friendly community for the elderly.” Recently, it displayed the service results in Jinhua community to 7 officials from the Minister of Health and Welfare, California, and the Bureau of Disease Control, who were invited by Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare to exchange information. In the meeting, STUST showed its “Silver Post” home security service notification system, the “Jinhuatong” community APP, and the vlog online Video shot by a lot of grandpas and grandmas. All these deeply impressed the American guests and were highly affirmed, fully demonstrating the strength of the interdisciplinary community service alliance, which applied expertise to the community through the cooperation of teachers and students in different fields, bringing great improvement to the quality of life for the elderly.

Cindy Gillespie, Minister of Social Welfare of Arkansas; Sheila Hogan, Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Montana; Christopher Jones, Minister of Social Welfare of North Dakota; Karen Smith, Minister of Health of California; Jose T. Montero, Director of the Disease Control Agency, Pikuei Tu, Director of the Duke University Center for Policy and Organizational Management, and other US officials were accompanied by officials from the Department of Health and Welfare to the Jinhua community in Tainan. In view of the emergency in the community, it is easy to for people to get panic and unable to seek help in time. This has caused a lot of regrets. The USR team of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has developed the "Silver Post—Home Security Service Notification System." This system is developed in two stages. In the first stage, Director Mei-Zhu Chen of the USR Health Care Team of STUST led the assistants and students to the community to evaluate and propose suggestions for the environmental safety of the elders, to refer the evaluation materials to the government units, and consider the majority of the products currently in the market as digital monitoring systems. The elders, who had a poor feeling about being monitored, couldn’t effectively take prevention and make report. Therefore, in the second stage, the USR Technology Care Team of Southern Taiwan, led by Director Wan-Rong Chang, began to develop the "Silver Post" notification system. Its main features include: One-click notification, 8 months long standby, USB charging, low cost, monthly communication fee of two dollars, and other low-cost operation, ensuring easy use, and easy burden for each elder. The new product displayed on site received much interest and repeated inquiries from the elders.

In addition, the “Jinhuatong” community APP is a new network platform jointly developed by Chief Kun-Cheng Ke of Jinhua Community and Prof. Kun Ouyang of Southern Taiwan USR Care Design Team. The APP function includes community stores and hospital facilities, parking lots, care service, and community announcement bulletin that can help people communicate, fully demonstrating the community resources and quantity. This app will be tested during the summer and become available on iOS and Android dual systems for free.

In addition to the safety of home and the improvement of community convenience, the USR marketing team and the health care team of STUST jointly planned and filmed a series of Vlog online videos, in order to promote the results of the interaction between the project and the community elders. The shooting scenes were all found in the Jinhua community. It was convenient not only for the male and female protagonists to come out, but also for the team to promote the convenience facilities and achievements of the community. The first "Southern Taiwan Senior Citizens Group vs. Jinhua Community Senior Goddess Group—Transformation of Metrosexual Grandmas" was posted on YouTube and other social media platforms. After receiving many positive and encouraging messages, the elders tried to experience new media. Through their interaction and communication, students and elders show the joy of silver-hair community and the energy of different generations. They won many praises from all walks of life. The protagonist in the film, after the filming, was very happy, saying that she did not expect that she could become the heroine of a film one day.

Chief Kun-Cheng Ke said: "From the results of these exhibitions, we can see that the energy of the university really gives back to the community and achieves the Social Responsibility Practice Program (USR) of the University of South Taiwan University of Science and Technology (USR), creating a new generation, integrating generations, and help them find their talents in senior life. This is certainly the idea of deep cultivation in the local community." Da-fu Huang, Dean of the College of Humanities at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, also said that the school attaches great importance to the implementation of university social responsibility, builds a cross-system cross-team alliance, and cooperates with teachers and students in different fields to apply the expertise and application to the community. STUST can find problems and understand local characteristics in the community, and then combine the resources of industry and government with the local neighborhoods, the primary and secondary schools, and the volunteer teams to help solve community problems, promote the ageing friendly community, and upgrade the elderly and local creation. Through the achievement exhibition, STUST efforts and deep cultivation in the USR project can be displayed. It is also expected to continue to lead the interdisciplinary team alliance within and outside the school, deepening the community core and assisting the elderly community in local care, health promotion, industrial upgrading, environmental sustainability, and a great sense of service, etc.

Director Mei-Zhu Chen of the USR Health Care Team of STUST also expressed her special thanks to Fubon Life Insurance Co., Ltd. for its assistance in this project. After the alliance with the USR team of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology last year, the company provided many resources and assistance in the assessment of home environmental safety.
