The Red Dot Design Award was founded in 1955 by the famous German design association Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. This competition is one of the largest and most prestigious design awards in the world. This team was awarded the 2019 German Red Dot Concept Award. The team of the Red Dot Design Concept Award was jointly directed by Associate Professor Kun Ouyang, Associate Professor Ya-Lin Chen, and Associate Professor Yu-Chun Du of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Digital Design Institute of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. The team consisted of How-Yi Liu (graduated from Tainan Guanghua High School, En-Rou Chen (graduated from Chunlung High School), Li-Jun Peng (graduated from Hsinchu Shiangshan High School), and Gua-Ju Guo (graduated from Tainan Shinfeng High School). The four students attended Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, respectively enrolled in the Department of Innovative Product Design and the Department of Electrical Engineering. Thanks to the instruction of the teachers, the interdisciplinary team could participate in the Red Dot Design Awards Competition and won the 2019 German Red Dot Concept Design Award. It was exciting and encouraging to the team.

The award-winning work GOGOAL is a home training system for ADHD (Attention deficit and hyperkinetic disorders) children with visual perception and concentration. It adds sensory training to the user’s exercise to promote their dopamine secretion and improve the core symptoms of ADHD. With the aid of parent-child games to enhance learning motivation and family relationships, this work can communicate with therapists by APP transmission data to improve treatment efficiency; it can also help professional treatment implemented at home. The winning entry will be invited to participate in the awards ceremony and exhibition in Singapore.

As the award-winning instructors Kun Ouyang and Ya-Lin Chen pointed out, the GOGOAL team was able to compete with top-ranking universities and companies on the global stage and demonstrate top strengths among students, thanks to the team members who had worked together for a year to overcome difficulties and continuous improvement, the support and encouragement of the school's research and development office, and the teaching development center and various units. It was not easy to stand on the stage of the world, competing together with the world's advanced design team.
