The Athletic Cheerleading Team of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won many awards with their outstanding performance in the 2020 Taichung City Mayor Cup Cheerleading Championship.

The Athletic Cheerleading Team of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology recently participated in the 2020 Taichung City Mayor Cup Cheerleading Championship, organized by the Taichung Cheerleading Association and the Republic of China Cheerleading Association at the National Sports Center in North District, Taichung City, winning first place in the college mixed doubles skill group, 2nd place in the college mixed four skills group, 2nd place in the open mixed double technique group, 3rd place in the open mixed four technique group, and 4th place in the college mixed double technique group.

The 2020 National Cheerleading Championship and Taichung City Mayor Cup Cheerleading Tournament had 14 types of entries, with a total of 105 teams from 45 units and institutions signed up on the day of the competition. At present, the domestic cheerleading sport is very popular. Competitive cheerleading shows the players' self-confidence, optimism, self-motivation, and teamwork spirit. Owing to the impact of the new crown pneumonia pandemic, a number of domestic sports events have been postponed. Under such circumstances, the competition organizer still overcame all the difficulties to hold the competition. In addition to extensive publicity in accordance with regulations, contestants and spectators were required to wear face masks, and their body temperature were also taken. The system allowed both epidemic prevention work and sports events to be held. This competition showed that the organizer had planned the event carefully and that all the contestants enjoyed the development of the epidemic in a slightly stable situation, showing their training results as they participated in the competition enthusiastically.

Hong-Zhe Shih, Leader of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology's Athletic Cheerleading Team, said that all members of the cheerleading team were especially grateful to the school’s support, Coach Yi-Ting’s Huang guidance, and the caring support of many former team members and alumni. During the summer vacation, the contestants specially planned a multi-day training camp for the competition. The active spirit of hard work was quite admirable. It is hoped that this competition will lay the foundation and accumulation of experience for many events in the second half of the year.

Rong-Tian Chen, a team member from the Graduate Institute of Human Resources, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that the competitive cheerleading team of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has entered its 19th year since its establishment in 1990. It is one of the long-standing physical clubs at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology; to this day, it has always maintained its dazzling performance in every competition. It is hoped that in the second half of the year, with the school’s promotion of the inter-departmental cup cheerleading championship and its various supports and resources, all departments can actively join all the cheerleading events. The school has injected great enthusiasm and has always hoped that students continue to bring their enthusiasm into the competitive cheerleading club to inherit the fascinating sport of cheerleading and their spirit of never giving up.
