The Smart Networking Special Practice Competition is mainly to encourage college students to engage in core technology research related to smart networking systems and to make use of design skills and innovative applications. It is hoped that through this competition, smart networking technology can be improved, and value can be added to smart networking systems. The competition this time was divided into four application groups. There are 218 teams from 48 schools, with 1,013 participating students. While the competition was fierce, the final review was conducted by online video review in response to the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic prevention measures. The organizer also provided an online communication platform so that participating students could observe and learn from each other.

Students Li-Shian Xu, Pe-Yi Wu, Professor Wan-Rong Chang, Shen-Hong Zheng, and Jia-Hong Wang, under the guidance of Associate Professor Wan-Rong Chang of the Department of Electronic Engineering of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, won the Gold Medal in the Smart Factory Networking Application Group with their work "MedEye." It is a smart drug identification system to be used in hospital dispensing rooms. When the dispenser is performing medicine dispensing, the medicine bag can be placed on the medicine identification device to perform AI edge calculation and identification to determine whether the information of the medicine bag matches the medicine and its quantity placed inside. If the dispensing does not match, the medicine identification device will remind the adjuster, by screen and or by voice, to reduce the error rate of the adjustment. In addition, the team directed by Professor Yu-Tai Shen from the Department of Mechanical Engineering won an Excellence Award with their work "Big Data Analysis and Diagnosis System Cloud over Damages to Bearing in the Cloud."

Associate Professor Wan-Rong Chang from the Department of Electronic Engineering of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said that the Ministry of Education started to hold the Smart Networking Competition last year and the competition has entered the second session. The purpose was to encourage campus students to continue technological creativity and innovation. After winning one gold medal, one silver medal, and one excellence award last year, the Department of Electronic Engineering continued to have brilliant perform this year, winning the Gold Medal in the Smart Factory Networking Application Group and creating outstanding results. In the future, the department will continue to cultivate students' practical ability and encourage participation in more national competitions. In addition to winning glory for the school, the department will also allow students to continuously learn and grow during the competition.

President Deng-Maw Lu of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology said that the school attaches great importance to the production of student topics. Theoretical explanation is only the structure and concepts. The focus is on how to enable students to effectively apply the concepts they have learned to problem solving, in order to achieve the benefits of applying what they have learned. Therefore, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology strongly encourages teachers to guide students to participate in various competitions outside the school. It is hoped that through competitions, students can acquire various professional knowledge and industrial application technologies during the development of their works. Through the learning of these knowledge and technologies, students can directly invest in the workplace and seamlessly integrate with the industry after graduation. All in all, the competition can promote the development of students' entrepreneurial opportunities.
