STUST won two gold medals in the 2020 Kaohsiung KIDE International Invention and Design Exhibition and World Invention Briefing Skills Competition.

The interdisciplinary team of the Department of International Business and the Department of Visual Communication Design from STUST recently participated in the 2020 Kaohsiung KIDE International Invention and Design Exhibition and World Invention Presentation Skills Competition, winning two gold medals. The 2020 Kaohsiung KIDE International Invention and Design Exhibition, hosted by WIIPA had participating teams from more than ten countries and regions, including Taiwan, India, Canada, South Korea, etc., with more than 500 entries in the fierce competition. Held at the Kaohsiung International Convention and Exhibition Center, the competition attracted many visitors. STUST' interdisciplinary team "Spin Hanger," much favored by international judges, won two gold medals in the "2020 Kaohsiung KIDE International Invention and Design Exhibition" and "2020 World Invention Presentation Skills Competition."

The STUST interdisciplinary team "Spin Hanger" was jointly directed by Associate Professor Jia-Jun Lin of the Department of Visual Communication Design and Associate Professor Wei-Zhen Yang of the Department of International Business, and is jointly, with 6 members including De-An Chen, Jun-Kuan Li, Yu-Zhen Lin, You-Hsi Lu, Chun-Yu Chen, and Hua-Kai Yang from Kaohsiung Darong High School student. The work "Spin Hanger" is based on the important thinking of Chinese "Tai Chi,” which produces the so-called "Two Yis and Four Images" during the rotation process. Spin Hanger uses two pieces of plates in L shape around the center point, combines with each other, and rotate to create 4 functions. The idea is very ingenious and creative.

This time the STUST interdisciplinary team "Spin Hanger" showed the spirit of working hand in hand, bringing a vocational high school student into the competition, so that the student could learn more professional skills and experience form the competition. Hua-Kai Yang, a second-year student from Dayong Vocation High School who participated in the competition, said that it was a great honor to be able to join the competition with the seniors of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology. From the process, she felt that the seniors’ presentation and exhibition skills were proficient and brilliant. She saw a strong team with the spirit of mutual assistance and cooperation during the competition. Therefore, it has become her goal to become a true member of the STUST team in the future. She will step up her efforts in the coming year, hoping that she can enter Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology.

STUST President Deng-Maw Lu said that Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has been focused on interdisciplinary teaching innovation. The "Spin Hanger" team won the gold medal of the 2020 Kaohsiung KIDE International Invention and Design Exhibition, showing that they could finish all the things in one go, from exhibition planning, booth layout, exhibit display, to interpretation and reception. At the same time, the team also performed well in the 2020 World Invention Presentation Skills Competition, winning another gold medal in both competitions. The entry "Spin Hanger" has also participated in various innovation and entrepreneurial competitions; through the process of market research and experience marketing, they have showed a great model for interdisciplinary cooperation, not only to participate in exhibitions of design and invention but also to attract the attention of businesses and raise business opportunities for their design and invention. STUST has long been working on activities for creation and innovation, encouraging its students to participate related competition in and out of the campus, consequently showing great achievements.
