As there are many overseas students on the campus of STUST from different countries, with different cultures and religious beliefs—Muslims, vegetarians, or students with special dietary needs—the need for a dormitory kitchen is even more urgent than before. In this opening activity, in addition to Taiwanese students, students from India, Vietnam, and Thailand were invited to cook delicious dishes representing their national characteristics. They also met with Administrative Vice President Hong-De Chang, Academic Vice President Ming-Tsai Lai, Secretary in Chief Chi-Liang Chu, Dean of Student Affairs Hua-Cheng Chang, and Director Yong-Peng Wang of the International Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs Yong-Peng Wang, and other school supervisors, teachers, and students. Together they tasted the food and had fun in a harmonious atmosphere.

The shared kitchen for students in the sixth dormitory of STUST was originally set up on the fourth floor, with one room for male students and another for female students. In the past, students often complained about insufficient kitchen facilities and their inconvenient locations. Later, thanks to the moving of the sports facilities room and audio-visual classroom to the G Building, the audio-visual classroom on the first floor of the dormitory was transformed into a shared kitchen for students. The warm shared kitchen has a new decoration and bright space. The facilities include an electric cooker, an induction cooker, a countertop, a dining table, a range hood, etc., allowing students to cook and eat in such a spacious and bright kitchen. The university hopes that students who leave their homes to study here can feel the “taste of home” in the school dormitory. In addition, before the opening, many boarding students had already said it would be great for the kitchen to become so high-end and that they would like to start using it as soon as possible.

Hong-De Chang, Vice President of Administration of STUST, said that STUST has always adhered to the "student-centered" concept and worked hard to run the university. A series of newly-built facilities, such as the “Heaven and Earth” Sqaure and the "By the Water" theatrical space, have been completed, making the campus facilities more complete for students’ campus lives. When the former kitchen of the sixth dorm was located on the fourth floor, students often complained about the insufficient kitchen facilities and its inconvenient location. That was certainly the reason why the university had to vacated the sports facilities room and audio-visual classroom in the sports center after rebuilding the student club building in the G Building. After freeing up more space for students to use and moving the student shared kitchen to the first floor, every student can use it conveniently. It will bring students away from home a place to cook some dishes they used to enjoy back at home, thereby relieving them a little from their homesickness.

At present, the shared kitchen in the sixth dorm adopts a QR code scanning real-name registration system for users. It is open three times a day by admission, namely 07:00 to 09:00, 11:00 to 13:00, and 17:00 to 21:00 in the evening. In the future, the university will make appropriate adjustments based on students' usage.
