Information on the EMI series of empowerment activities at the EMI Teaching Resource Center of National Taiwan Normal University

1. Our university's EMI Teaching Resource Center will host a series of EMI empowerment and exchange activities from October 14 to 18, 2025, aiming to promote cross-school collaboration and enhance EMI teaching effectiveness. Details of the events are as follows:
(1) Bilingual Alliance Roundtable: From October 13 to 15, the Center will host roundtable meetings at four schools in the northern, central, and southern regions. Dr. Michael Smith, Director of the English Center at the University of Texas at Austin, will join teachers from partner schools who have participated in trans-disciplinary training to discuss the concepts and methods of promoting bilingual education and the benefits of teacher professional empowerment. This meeting will share the concepts and methods of bilingual empowerment and provide an open discussion on the development of bilingual classes. We welcome bilingual promotion units, bilingual practitioners, and bilingual teachers from all schools to attend.

The sessions are as follows:
1. October 13 (Mon): (North District) National Taiwan University of Arts
2. October 14 (Tue): (South District) Cheng Shiu University of Science and Technology, Kaohsiung Medical University.
3. October 15 (Wed): (Central District) Feng Chia University.
(II) Open Observation Class: The Center promotes EMI teaching practices, using open observation classes as a friendly platform for enhancing teaching knowledge and dialogue. The Center has already held 20 open observation classes in the 2024 academic year, which have received widespread response and acclaim. We plan to continue holding 37 open observation classes in the 2025 academic year, with a total of 14 classes in the 114-1 semester. This series of open observation classes covers a wide range of topics, including semiconductors, financial management, history, and East Asian languages. (III) 114-1 Field-Based Bilingual Benchmark School Collaboration Conference: The Center is committed to improving the quality of EMI teaching in various schools. Therefore, the Center is hosting the Field-Based Bilingual Benchmark School Collaboration Conference. The purpose is for National Taiwan Normal University to share its bilingual experiences across the university and engage in dialogue with EMI promoters from all walks of life. The Center held its first meeting on June 13, 2025. This time, National Central University, National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University, and National Chung Cheng University will share their current EMI implementation plans and challenges for discussion and dialogue. Faculty members responsible for EMI promotion at each institution are invited to participate.

(IV) Results Presentation and International Symposium: The Center has promoted EMI collaboration and teaching practice through development and international symposiums. This year, the Center has held three such symposiums, successfully bringing together EMI faculty members for discussion and exchange. This fourth symposium will feature the theme "Shaping the Future of Bilingual Collaboration: Scholarship of Teaching and Learning," with special presentations by Dr. Michael Smith and Dr. Zhao Hong Han. Other topics include teaching demonstrations, workshops, and roundtable discussions. Faculty members promoting EMI practice are welcome to register. This event, advertised under Publication No. 1141023111, includes on-site training at Teachers College, Columbia University, and the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a presentation of research findings from participants in our center's 36-hour EMI course. The symposium features two keynote lectures and a comprehensive EMI discussion, exploring the integration of EMI theory and practice, curriculum design, and the application of AI in EMI instruction. EMI instructors from all institutions are cordially invited to participate.
