Students of Department of Hospitality Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology University, won gold and silver medals with their brilliant performances in the 48th National Skills Competition and the 45th International Skills Competition.

The 48th National Skills Competition and the 45th International Skills Competition National Hand Selection Competition," sponsored by the Ministry of Labor, were respectively held in Labor Academy, Overseas Chinese University, and Jiayang Senior High School. The competitions were held simultaneously. The contestants were the top 5 winners in each category selected in the North Central South Division in late April this year, with 640 winners in total, together with the 19 winners from national secondary school student skill competition and the 129 top 3 players from previous national skill competitions. There were a total of 788 players in the competition.

The competition have undergone fierce competition, and all the three students from Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology won awards. In particular, the two students who won the gold medal and the silver medal in Dim Sum Competition also obtained the qualification for the first stage selection of the national competition in Taiwan. They will participate in the national finals selection in October and strive to represent Taiwan in the biennial International Skills Competition next year in Russia, which is claimed to be the largest in the world and is known as the Olympic Skills Competition.

The three award-winning students of the competition, Yu-Shang Hong, Yuan-Han Kang, and Yu-Shin Tang went through many contestants in the Skills Competition Division in April this year. After the elimination over the tournament, they were among the best, and they entered the national finals, competing with all the top five winners from the North, Central and South Divisions. After winning the competition, Hong won first prize and the highest honor in the Dim Sum Competition Category and a prize money of $NT 80,000. Kang won the silver medal in the category and a prize money of $NT 60,000, and Tang Won fourth place in the bread making category.

Mei-Lan Lin, Chiar of the Department of Hospitality Management, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, said that the three contestants owed a lot to Prof. Shi-Yi Huang and Lecturer Hong-Ru Tsai for their encouragement and guidance as they won the top five prizes in the preliminary contests of the North, Central, and South Districts. It showed their strong willpower and unremitting efforts. In response to the international skills competition held in Russia next year, the theme of the World Dim Sum Competition will be "An Impressive Passage to Russian."

The big cake design of Yu-Shang Hong, who won the gold medal, came with an amazing visual and taste effect in appearance, taste, and quality. Based on the theme of the St. Basil's Church in Russia, the design and production of the cathedral with three onion domes was very lively and interesting. Her excellent performance won her the gold medal in the national skills competition.

Yun-Han Kang, who won the silver medal, chose the theme "WELCOME TO RUSSIA." With its appearance, organization, and taste, the award-winning work became one of the most eye-catching works and won a lot of praises from the judges.
