The 49th Anniversary of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology: alumni from all walks of life gathered together to hold a series of sports events and a cocktail party for celebration.

Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology celebrated its 49th anniversary 15th day of December. Both President Ing-Wen Tsai and Vice-President Jian-Ren Chen gave congratulatory messages to STUST to celebrate its anniversary. The ceremony presented "Zun-Shian Wu Scholarship," "Ms. Li-Ling Wu Scholarship," and "Excellent Teacher Award", “Senior Faculty and Staff Award,” and many others. A great number of alumni returned to their alma mater to participate in the activities, The celebration activities this time were different. In addition to the celebrations that have been held for more than 20 years, the celebration meeting was replaced by a warm reception; teachers and students could feel rejuvenated in the sports competitions and filled with the fearless spirit as they bravely marched forward. At the same time, there was inspiration for elegant temperament in the music reception. While the campus is full of thriving atmosphere, all the teachers and students were united and hoped to strive for more glory brilliance in the future.

Honorable guests invited to the 49th Anniversary Celebration of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology included Wen-Hui Wu, Director of Wu San-Lian Taiwan Historical Materials Foundation; Yao-De Wang, Chairman of STUST Alumni Association; and Liang-Guan Liang, Director of the delegation of the sister school from Dongkang College in Korea. In the celebration reception, a great music feast hosted by Tainan Symphony Orchestra and Wen-Long Wang, who is one of the great alumni of STUST was arranged, in addition to the awards of various awards to the outstanding teachers and students. The concert was wonderful and rich, including Taiwan folk songs and ten famous domestic and international repertoires, such as O Solo Mio, Baja Garotte by Bach, Serenade by Mozart, and many other great ones.

Chairman Hsin-Hsiung Chang of the Board of Directors pointed out that the celebration gave the school an opportunity to reflect upon and think about what have led Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology to its status today, and what the future direction should be. He asked everybody to remember the past, seize the present, and look forward to the future. He expected that the teachers and students of the school would continue to work hard. In the speech, he encouraged the teachers and students of the whole school with the idea all salmons strive for the upper reaches; even if they have to exhaust their lives, they have to travel to spawn eggs. He asked teachers and students to be well equipped with a firm will, without any fear of difficulties, jointly building a better Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, so as to make up for the loss in the preceding decade and make a great leap to the next decade. Finally, he showed expectation that all everyone at STUST would be able to have the grand vision of becoming one of the “first-class students at a first-class university, making STUST a world-class institution of higher learning.

Since its establishment 49 years ago, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has become a model for private schools, under the selfless dedication of the Board of Directors, the long-term vision of Chairman Hsin-Hsiung Chang of the Board of Directors, and the hard work of all the teachers and students. This year, STUST has already been granted more than NT$ 175 million by the Sprout Program of Higher Education, becoming the first private university of science and technology. In 2018, STUST regained the top spot and won the Cheers magazine survey for the company's favorite private university of science and technology, at the same time ranked 15th among the most preferred university by private companies and considered the only private one listed among the top 10most preferred university of science and technology by companies. For four consecutive years, STUST has been listed among the “Top 20 Growth University in Performance.” On the other hand, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology has been in cooperation with the government in the future development of big data, AI (artificial intelligence), Internet of Things, and financial technology to cultivate AI (artificial intelligence) talents. It was granted by the Ministry of Education a fund to run the program for a "High-level Intelligence and Health Joint Research Center," which, as much as NT$ 20 million, will help deepen the professional technology research and development, substantiate the talent cultivation plan with, integrate the College of Engineering, the College of Digital Design, and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and establish an “AI Biomedical Technology Development Center.” In the future, STUST will also work with the “AI Health Center” of Chi Mei Hospital to set up a "High-level Joint Research Center for Intelligence and Health Medicine." In addition, the "Elderly Service Education Building" to be completed is planned to set up an "Innovative Medical Materials and Care Technology Research and Development Center," an "Advanced Care and Production Technology Research and Development Center" and a "Data Analysis Center for Elderly Life." Following the progress of the times and the changes in the educational environment, STUST will keep up with the pace of the times and coordinate with the future development of the country.

President Deng-Maw Lu said that this year's celebration activities were different from the serious styles of ceremony in the past. It brought a warm and grateful atmosphere to the celebration, and for the first time, the round table reception were held for the celebration. He hoped that through friendly exchanges that the school could once again promote the atmosphere of unity and the unity of the entire school. With the spirit of "spending on students with what we took from students" and the insistence in the original intention of the board of directors to run a "first-class universities," STUST would bravely march towards its 50th anniversary. Finally, President Lu encouraged the teachers and students by saying that a great and famous university must have high-quality sports performances. He hoped that by enhancing the great spirit of sports for teachers and students of the whole school, STUST would strengthen everyone’s physical fitness, build up a consensus for the whole school, and soar together for the coming decade.
